Strike squadrons on an air field...

The port strike lets sink ships in a port but we can't destroy the port...so why do create a new mission which would allow to strike ennemies air units on their air flieds ?

The air units attacked would have a penality, surprise and numerical baseness because not every planes could take off...

Two things:

*Radar should be able to reduce the surprise penalty to zero (with size10 and max tech).

*Attacking fighters / interceptors should be very vunerable to any AA installations in the zone.

The name could be airfield strike and instead of a new mission just replace runway cratering in a single mission that attacks all buildings and aircraft at the airfield.

Port strike actually does reduce the port level. But yes, a mission just for hitting air wings that are parked on the airfield sounds like a great idea.

it's true for lighter bombers/fighter bomberrs but certainly not much difference for heavier ones.

of course the weather affects level bombing much...

I ment that if you attack their airfield with your own fighters or interceptors they should be less effective or take heavy damage from AA too.

And, Doesn't weather already affect all bombing / portstrike missions by quite alot?

It would also be nice if portstrike and this new airfield strike could be combined into a single mission since airfields and ports often shared locations in order to be easier to defend and support eachother. For example when hitting pearl harbour they had to take out the aircrafts there aswell before striking the ships.

If carriers could undertake this mission they could perhaps even be somewhat useful against aircrafts in the furture :p
American Carriers did historically sneak up and cleared most of the airfields in southern Japan before they dared to invade okinawa.

But fighters are more efficient than bombers for straffing missions.

Or the possibility to choose the target, airfields or port.
Because when you launch a port strike against a province where there is an airfielda, and airunits, the CAGs will fight against the ships and aircrafts.
