I decided to pick this game back up with the DLC coming out soon to shake off the rust. My first 3 games had some interesting moments but overall turn out pretty much the same. For my latest game I am trying out a new mod that I didn't think would make much, if any, difference. The mod is a faction mod and I only used it to dissolve all factions at the start of the game so no allies, axis, or comintern. This only affected the very start as nations are still free to start new factions.

And up to the beginning of 1941 things were going as they usually do and factions were indeed formed with the usual countries grouping up. Well that is until Russia declared war on Finland which is scripted and usually only lasts a day or 2 before white peace is reached. However in this game as soon as Russia DoW, Finland instantly joins the new Allies faction which brought everyone else into that war. Now the really odd thing to happen is Russia joined up with Germany which I assume is because Russia wasn't in a faction already. That is a lot of combined fire and man power.

I have to admit I am very excited to get off work today to continue this game and see how it goes. So far not much has changed for Italy as they have already lost Rome and I have seen both the UK and USA have landed in France but haven't been able to hold yet. Mean while the only other war going on is China vs Japan that looks to be a complete stalemate or even in the advantage of China despite having Germany, Russia, and Japan to fight. My only regret now is picking Siam because I only wanted to "watch".

Finland is always a problem. We had to institute a "Germany and Britain cannot accept Finland into the Axis or Allies during the Winter War" rule. Due to how AI operates, and how the mechanics work, Finland will seek out factions when the Soviets come knocking.

These faction invites override things like the M-R Pact, truces, and common sense. It's a damn nuisance.

Yes I have seen this a few times too. It gets real buggy when a current faction member has a civil war (looking at you Romania, Bulgaria, Yugoslavia). Never made sense that a faction would allow a new member who is at war with someone that faction is not at war with. If the faction is it war and adds a member that is fine.

I could see it being a real problem in a non modded game but it took a mod to "break" the game like this which I do find fun now and again. I did have a game awhile back that completely broke because of something like this without a mod so as long as I get to finish this war I will be happy.
