Never played as Muslims...any tips?

I havenever played as a muslim yet, but, reading about your problems made me think: why dont you just get a single, old wife and assasinate all boys born except your heir and another one? Just in case something bad happens to your heir
Or if your ruler just can't handle life without a harem of 4 beautiful hot wives, just marry mostly celibate women. You still have your wives, but most of them won't be pumping out kids to kill each other.
Well, It depends whether you mind taking the prestige hit from having less than three wives or not. I suppose having one young wife to produce an heir and then two old ones could be a good idea to reduce the amount of sons you have.

But more importantly, you can't plot to kill your own kids last I checked, which leaves just the straight up assassination button... which is unreliable, expensive, and is one of the few ways you can get labelled "kinslayer" as a Muslim should you get busted killing your own sons.
As for the wives... yeah, I'll typically marry one or two that are less than fertile. But if you only aim to marry a single wife, you're asking for trouble. In the Muslim world, women can never inherit, so you HAVE to have a son. Multiple wives practically guarantee it, and the more you have the less likely you'll be looking at game over from a lack of penis-possessing children (though I also banish my relatives, never execute unless I really hate them, so SHOULD the worst happen there's a distant relative in a distant court that'll take over). Additionally, more wives means more alliances, and more prestige means people are more likely to honor those alliances (and generally love you). And I have had a ruler that needed his tenth kid to get a single son... ugh.
Speaking from personal experience, you absolutely do not need to resort to super-gamey tactics to keep your decadence down. I've built a Persian Empire than spans from Anatolia to Khwarizm to Persia to Syria and I've never run into any serious decadence issues. Heck, some of my landed sons ultimately didn't get the throne due to a better son coming after them, and behaved well enough that they still have cadet branches out there... giving only tiny bits of decadence, not enough to concern myself with. If your decadence is skyrocketing, it isn't because you're not using gamey tactics, it's because you just don't know yet how to properly manage your decadence.
A few thoughts that I ran with, until the terrible, terrible things I was doing wound up depressing me too much, and I moved back to catholics.
- Try to marry genius wives (or wives with other nice traits). The extra children make it that much easier to pick up good traits in your children.
- Have at least a few of those wives be high-intrigue, ambitious, etc, then foster the non-genius sons to them. Decent chance, the kid will be taken care of before he gets old enough to give you any decadence.
- Other than that, take the hit as necessary until your heir inherits and you can imprison for free. Give your brothers jail cells for their 16th birthdays. Having good stats can help out your decadence a fair bit, actually.
- note that if you imprison the wie for some reason while she's pregnant (say, because you just caught her assassinating one of your other kids) and she gives birth in prison, the kid starts life in prison, and can be left there without tyranny (unless you want that one) (note that with the health penalty, you might not be able to leave them there *long*.

One feature which hasn't been mentioned is the fact that dynasty memebers don't contribute to decadence if they have a council postion. Therefore in my game once I had got my heir I'd educate each of my remaining sons for a different postion on the council (except for imam as your unable to appoint that easyily). Following this process I was able to usally get through to till succession whgere unless they were still praticularly good at their job they went straight to prison with no penalty to my opinion.
This method is also good in that it stops yours unwanted (harsh but true) sons from being able to marry and have kids making it easier to manage your dynasty.

You could play CK2+ and not have to worry about landing sons and then killing them all because they use the decandance system through events rather then sons holding land.
