Never play this series before, is it a game with warfare to expand the empire?

Its FAR from HOI3. I mean yeah the map is similar, but the gameplay is different. And the game is not focused on warfare alone. War exhaustion allows only short wars, so most of the time you trade, explore, conquer provinces and generally have a good time.
Hm... From what I feel... The EU series is like a sample of most PI titles, with the blue-blooded hereditary blues of CK, the colonization of Victoria, and a kind of simplified combat system (compared to HOI). Warfare, at least in EU3, is a major way to expand compared to other titles (like CK2 and Vic2), because you can make your peace demands AFTER you win, and you're not limited to a region of land per war.
Yes, but the military units are much more abstracted. Basically Infantry, Cavalry, and Artillery. Grouped together and given Generals. Send Group to Province fight enemy Army then siege fort. After Fort is captured province occupied. Technology will improve the stats of your units or Generals.
Also timeframe of Game is much longer......also look at some of the other threads in Forum.
From my experience with Demo......World Conquest is going to be much harder.

The EU series is in a sense much broader than HoI and more about long term empire building than a single massive war. It's worth noting that if all you want to do is fight and conquer, you can do that quite well in EU (with effects of war exhaustion and bad reputation in mind, France can still take over the world).
Its not a war game (like HOI). It is a game about governing a nation. War is one part of that. So is trade, diplomacy, colonisation etc.

The trade sytem alone is a massive improvement to anything seen in previous paradox games.
Personally, I don't see this as a wargame, even though it has war as an element. Rather, it's a grand strategy game, where you rule your empire to greatness, not just by warfare, but also by diplomacy, trade, etcetera.
