Hi everyone,

I am Japan and my friend is Germany. I am trying to send my 30 transports and attack navy through the suez canal and straits of Gibraltar to then invade the poorly defending ENG island. We have been allied the whole game. Germany has Suez and even more of africa past that, yet the game wont let me rebase my transports only in a province in the mediterranean (i.e. alexandria). It will let me rebase my attack navy, not my transports anywhere inside mediterranean. anyone know why this is? I would assume one of us will have to control Gibraltar also..so let's hope he can attack spain quickly or better get them into our alliance somehow - nationalist spain, but they have always rejected so far.

THEN there is our issue with rain. It is muddy in that area of russia ALL year round. Also, since the year we attacked Russia in 1941, the weather has been nonstop rain WORLDWIDE and it is july of 1942 - a little over a year now. It's very frustrating. We are fighting and annexing in the middle east now, and it is raining in the deserts of egypt and persia. If you look at the map, it is literally raining everywhere in every province including oceanic ones. Rarely a dry province shows, but ya. Even storms linger around forever. Any help?

Never heard of any of those issues (I'm pretty sure they are not in single player Armageddon or Doomsday). Which game version are you playing? It might be a bug connected to multiplayer, or something that was fixed with some patch or expansion...

I'd recommend trying such games only on Armageddon 1.3beta2, as that is much more stable and practically bug-free. :)

Ya, it is just the original HOI2 game. My friend and I play multiplayer through a simple LAN connection right next to each other. We started the '36 campaign as Germany and Japan. It literally has rained everywhere and every day for a year, and although he owns suez and port said along with all of egypt (actually he occupies them as Britain has not been killed yet), yet I can not send my navy through the suez canal to get to mediterranean. I'm trying to send my army from india through all of that, through strait of gibraltar and around spain to invade Britain. We already own or occupy all of Asia together (for the most part). Since he gets USA I'm taking Britain. So, is there something I'm missing as to requirements for going through suez and gibraltar, or are you saying it's definitely a bug?

And if it is a bug, could we install the latest patch for it w/o losing our game? We would like to get the expansion armaggedon or doomsday, but we want to finish our game first I guess. Thank you for your reply so far. We appreciate it because this is really frustrating.

It's frustrating for him as well because he can't amphib italy from the south while he attacks from the north which relatively slows down how fast he can get their victory points. Italy is at war with allies, but would never join our alliance (although we both influenced and included them in events). Now they are devasted and worthless to us, so he is just going to annex them.

As long as you're allied, you should be able to pass through the Suez channel if you control Suez. And since you said you had no problems funneling your battleships through it, I don't see why it shouldn't work with transports, too. You did use the rebase command, yes?

As for patches, they usually don't work with already started games. You could of course edit the savegame after patching up, even after switching to Armageddon, to make it fit, but that will be quite difficult and time-consuming.

What version of HoI2 do you play? As far as I know, the latest patch should be HoI2 1.3a. If you're playing anything below that, I'd really recommend copying your game folder and installing that patch to one of the copies, then trying to continue the savegame with the patched game. If it works, fine, if it doesn't, you still have the unpatched folder to play. :)

I am 100% sure that the neverending rain is a bug. And since I have never heard of it, it must be either from a very old game version or purely multiplayer-induced.

Thank you again!

Yea, I have been trying to rebase, and I've tried so many different things to get those transports through it's crazy. It didn't work in multiplayer. I went home and did various things (stationing germanys troops in suez and port said, etc...) and none of them allowed my transports to get through. I was frustrated, and so I just modded superheavies, light cruisers, and transports to be built in one day, have 99 speed, huge range; sent them over and transported my troops around africa lol. Then I deleted the ships, but my friend asked me to try the regular way again before we play, and it suddenly let my transports through. Now, I did that w/o troops before and it didn't let me, but this time it let me. I didn't even bother trying with them. Instead I just rebased in alexandria after dropping my troops off in port said or something then walking them to alexandria.

Providing it randomly doesn't work that issue is solved. To deal with the rain I got rid of all the rain modifiers in the game.

We are running the very original game version 1.0.0 so I'd say it's pretty outdated. I think we would like to try copying our game and running the patch through it to see if it works. How exactly do we do that though? I know how to get the 1.3a patch, but exactly what file of our game do I copy and how to I apply the patch only to that file? I'm not very experienced with patches.

P.S. - Looking back this all woulda been so much easier had I just gone after America. If my friend wasn't so oil hungry as Germany I'd have America already. I hate England haha. I've been fighting them in Indochina forever now. I can't take them because it returns them to vichy control and I can't be supplied there so I'm just all along the border waiting til we can kill vichy

also I have a few questions for you and anyone else about HOI3. We have liked HOI2 for a while now, yet we decided to skip HOI3 b/c my friend didn't like a few modifications to battles and maybe some other things. I myself haven't researched them.

So what if any are the negatives about HOI3? Is the annexation still the same? Is the fighting still realistic and fair? I guess I'm wondering not just what did they change but what kind of affect do their changes have on our gameplay? We play multiplayer for one reason and that is to take over the world before the deadline. We annex everything we can in the end and only use puppets to help us temporarily with troops and units. So is HOI3 worth getting?

So is HOI3 worth getting?

For your use, no.

Edit: Wife handed me our baby, so couldn't really type much...

HOI3 probably won't be worth getting for you, since the annex feature is truely broken with the new GIE (government in exile). If a country is in a faction, it usually goes in exile instead of surrendering, and the feature is bugged (at least for me), so you'll end up chasing ghost divisions until you randomly get the chance to annex... HOI2 is way better on that. However, HOI3 isn't crap. It's actually rather fun, just a different fun then HOI2...

GIE works fine until it bugs out. But when it do (most often when I try to conquer the last member of a faction), it makes all the countries that are GIE in the last member of the faction uncapturable. I once tried to chase down the final remains of the allies, annexed the UK, but couldn't find out where the last province that belonged to Nationalist Spain were. As far as I could tell, they didn't have any.

But, that's just rambling.
The way it works is that when a member is part of any of the three factions (allies, contimern (?) and axis), they get to choose wether to surrender and offer annexation, or go in exile. Their country is then occupied by the attacker, and the "capitol" is moved to the capitol of the leader in the faction. If it's the faction leader that's going in exile, another (random I think) member is picked as leader and the GIE goes there. When you are down to 3 GIE's and 1 surviving member, you often have to take each and every province from the last one, no matter if it's a VP or not. Or else the GIE's will live on. And this isn't allways working properly, so you are forced to chase ghostarmies. As a superpowered Denmark ( ), I whipped through Scandinavia and Sovjet. USSR went GIE to Mongolia, and when I took them, they went GIE to Commie China. So then I went for Commie China, but they refused to die. I own all their land, but no surrender. Suddenly I get a pop up that they have taken Leningrad... So, whatever, I'll go take it back then. And when I do, they surrender, with USSR and Mongolia shortly afterwards.

So, it's sort of bugged. And if you are in a faction, you can't leave it. Ever. And you can't release puppets. And if you are in a faction, and at war with another faction, it's either win or loose. No peace until either faction is wiped out.

However, despite all the negatives, it's a great game. It's just flawed in some areas. But all in all, it's awesome :D And I think it's worth it, but I don't think it will suit you and your friend's gameplay. How about you try? It's rather cheap from time to time, when there are promotions. Keep your eye on Gamersgate and Steam, and pick it up when it's under $10/€10.
