I'm quite comfortable with generals surviving their army destruction: after all they just need a quick horse to run away.. ;)

Instead, it's quite strange when a fleet is utterly wiped out in mid Atlantic (let's say) and the day after the admiral/explorer jumps into the royal admiralty in London or Madrid, perhaps saying something like:
"Shiver my timbers, that be a gale! Avast, where be my new ship, arrrrr?"(*)

Shouldn't this "never-dying feature" be addressed in the new patches? I think so.

Comments anyone?

(*) in that period, even the most polite admiral talked like a pirate :p

I also would have liked it if normal POW can be exchanged...
(Generals too, of course)
That was usual and should be in the game!
That could be made in the peace offer dialogue IMHO.

Admirals should need at least a month to swim
across the atlantic and be back for Duty :D
(They were all swim champions in these days :) )

I think it could be impimented, that an admiral only
can survive if he is near a coast ...

According to the last period costume drama I saw, Pirates of the Carribean II, naval officers of the time period had several effective ways of not dying ;)

Actually that gives me an idea for a mod. :p

It's only WAD for as long as Johan say so, so it'll probably be fixed soon.

It's deliberate. They aren't invulnerable, there's a chance of them dying every time they enter combat regardless of casualties. They do not die with stack annhilation, just as they didn't die in the HoI games.

I've always objected to this myself.

After all... General Paulus didn't magically transport from Stalingrad to Berlin as soon as the VI Army was destroyed. The player should either have air transport or naval transport ability or his general should be captured.

And even he did have the ability to airlift him out, the player should always have the ability to let him stay ;)

I think you should be able to capture generals and not just kill them outright. After all during the 1600s to 1700s if you captured a General, Print, or King you didn't just hang him on the spot but rather ransomed him for hefty money or made him sign a document.... Or two :cool:

hoi stacks are annihilated just if encircled (ok, not completely true but almost...) and even in this case you can imagine that the leader successfully escaped throght the enemy lines..

But I'm talking about naval attrition and/or naval battles. There were no self inflating life-raft in 16th century.... :D
