The Second Italian Campaign

Next on the list of annexations was Tuscany. Sitting there all alone with no allies, and only three provinces, she was just asking for it.

oct11854warwithtuscanydi7.png

The Tuscans basically had no army, and what they did have was outnumbered 13 to 1. Needless to say there weren’t any major battles.

oct101854tuscanarmyti3.png

The war was over quickly, but peace took several more months, as I was waiting for my next diplomat before starting the next campaign. When you are at negative prestige, it is best to not end your war until you have another diplomat (wars give you an extra diplomat per year).

january281854tuscanyannbh7.png

The war did end eventually, and now it is time to consider how best to join our Italian holdings with the rest of the empire. Our choices are:
1. Through Austria,
2. Or Sardinia Piedmont and either France or Switzerland.

I’m glad to hear that, insanity was what I was going for.

Thanks, As I’ve said before I really wanted this AAR to be helpful in teaching some of the finer aspects of the game (economics not being one of them)

By now you probably have your answer, but the debt is around 1,000,000£

Japan by far, as the population is greater, and the resources better. Plus Japan already has three factories.

I’m not quit sure. Somehow throughout all the German Campaigns, I never got around to annexing them.

That’s funny I find that China only civilizes about 1 in 3 games for me.

I’d say you’re probably right

By now you probably have your answer, but the debt is around 1,000,000£ The British are helping to keep the economy afloat, but it is Korea, Japan and others (plus RR) that are really helping to turn things around

Thanks, I appreciate the encouragement.

I’m sure the French could help my tax income, but I am waiting a little before I return to France for two reasons. 1. European pops cost more in education and crime fighting, and 2. I am hoping that France will industrialize her provinces before I invade, so I won’t have to.

Actually I’m kind of afraid of Sweden. I’m afraid if I invade then some strange virus might find its way onto my computer.

Both are very valid points, and I’m starting to go that direction. The RRs have been continuously expanded for some time now, and I’m of the opinion that that has done more to help the economy than anything else. As for the cavalry, I’m torn because I don’t want to take on any new debt, but yet I want to reduce expenses. I guess I can’t have it both ways.

I’m not sure what you are referencing specifically. If you are talking about going after India, I suppose a little, but I am taking the UK on at the same time. Personally I think any WC game is gamey or exploitish, because there is no way the rest of the world would have allowed Belgium to do what it has done so far, but I suppose that’s the balancing act of trying to do something gamey without being to gamey. Of course in the next post you’ll see that British India is no pushover.

My goal is to annex Beroda. I figure by the time I finish that, then I should have the British ready for another war indemnities treaty. If I have time I may try for one of the one province states, but we’ll have to wait and see.

If that was the case I'd just cut out education totally and send everyone straight to boot camp. I’m actually a little concerned about cutting education, because I don’t want to slow down my tech research, but I think it’s necessary at this point.
great AAR I play as Belgium alot and once Prussia signed the london treaty and I allied w/ was able to crush france in 1849 and gained Cambri and lille amiens

I am just reading the beginning of this AAR, and looks like you are in trouble against the Netherlands...

Just kidding. I just sat and read this whole thing on my last day of school because it was that engrossing.

Keep up the good work. I once tried roughly the same strategy you are, with a small German minor, and ran my economy into the ground to the point where there was just no saving it.

I plan to try again some day.

TaTa, I am off to read your Sweden AAR.

Go through France, for the economic benefit of gaining state culture POPs.

Sixth German Campaign, part 1

Following Joeb’s advice I think it would be best to take all three routes; however the game only allows one war at a time, so we’ll start with Austria.

feb11855warstartsuc9.png

And thus begins the Third Italian Campaign (also known as the Sixth German Campaign). Against Prussia the Belgians are sending three armies…

feb11855plansforprussiagq8.png

While there will be 4 armies operating against the Austrians.

feb11855plansforaustriaeh6.png

The goal for this war is to create a land route through Austria between our Italian holdings, and the rest of the empire. Since I don’t expect the AI to give me a sensible peace offering, I will have to create one myself which means I will have to capture those provinces.

I also want to make gains against Prussia, so the first order of business for the war will be the capture of Berlin. Not only will this drive up the war score, but it will also prevent the Prussian mobilization from occurring.

Fortunately there aren’t a lot of Prussian troops at the start of the war to stop me.

feb211855warinprussiaub8.png

As for Austria, our military objectives are two-fold. Capture the capital, and also the necessary provinces for my land bridge. Again we are benefited by the relatively small size of the Austrian army. As we are able to we will isolate and annihilate enemy divisions.

feb281855warinaustriabh4.png

It didn’t take long before Austria began spamming me with peace proposals, but none of them were what I wanted.

Yay! Kill them all! And I think you should try to get a land rout through China and Russia to connect your Asian holdings to your German holdings.

Dear Sir Quirinus308, I must also admit defeat against your writing prowess. You make me do overtime at work because I keep reading these AARs. And in the evening I feel so "guilty" that I stay longer just to do some real work.

Well, if it makes you feel any better, I do all my writing and posting while I'm at work, so together none of us are getting anything accomplished. :D

At least I don't play the game at work ;)

I havn't read many AARs really, but this I'm glad I came to read this, makes me consider doing things...for example, going against America when his WE was so high, I never really considered the benefits, I don't know why >_<
