I Bet You Didn't See This One Coming
While there is a light at the end of the economic tunnel, that is still a long ways away, and so I think the next war should still be about what helps the economy. To that end, I chose a rich opponent in a weak position.
The US is still at war with Mexico, and sitting at 100% war exhaustion. It is safe to assume that the US army will be down south fighting the Mexicans, and thus the capital will be relatively undefended. The plan will be to land two armies in the northeast and capture Washington DC and whatever else I can, while waiting for the AI to offer me a good peace.
My goal in this war is not indemnities. I want factories. To that end, whatever gains I make must include an entire state, so that I will also gain the factories that go with that state. I would like to come out of this war with New York, but that may be a bit too ambitious.
We started the war with our fleet already sitting off the coast of Washington, so all we had to do was defeat the US navy, and then execute our plan. The US navy proved little opposition as most of the American ships were blockading Mexican ports.
With the navy out of the way we were able to land one army at New York City, and another army at Washington DC. Both armies landed unopposed.
Within a month most of Pennsylvania had been captured, as well as additional provinces along the coast.
The US was now ready to start talking peace, but what they offered was a joke.
Not only would it not include any factories, the provinces offered were scattered across the continent. It was obvious I would have to be the one to submit a peace deal. By now I controlled all of Pennsylvania and New Jersey, as well as my earlier gains at Washington and New York City. This looked like enough to begin my own peace proposals.
The offering I made asked for Pennsylvania and New Jersey. It was promptly refused.
