The Fifth German Campaign, Part 1
The Fifth German Campaign began on January 9, 1848 with very clear goals in mind.
The first phase of the war would be to knock out the German minors, and Austria, before turning our full attention on Prussia.
Within a little over a week the Belgian armies were in position to wipe out the remaining south German Principalities.
In typical fashion the AI offered a peace deal when it was on the verge of annexation. Perhaps if it had been more generous earlier we wouldn’t be in this position
Unfortunately the Bavarians would not be allowed to get off that easy. Baden would be first, but not last…
Not long after Baden, Bavaria accepted the inevitable…
There were three armies operating in south Germany, and with Baden and Bavaria both annexed, the armies were given new objectives. One army was left to finish off the remaining minors, while another was sent against Prussia. The 4e Cavallerie was given the honor of single handedly invading Austria.

The situation in Germany has seen the larger southern minors annexed, while operations are beginning to see fruit in the Rhineland, and Austria.
In February the Belgians captured Berlin, and the Prussian counter attack proved minimal. It appeared for the time like this campaign would also be a rather short campaign, but that was not destined to be the case.
After capturing Berlin, the Belgians moved to capture more provinces, and drive up the war score, but the Prussians started showing up in ever increasing numbers.
On February 20th another minor was brought into the fold…
And again on February 27th…
In Prussia the Belgians offensive was slowing down, as the Prussian army continued to grow. At this rate we may need to just hold where we are until reinforcements arrive from the Rhineland.
In Austria however the Belgians are facing minimal resistance, and are on the outskirts of Wein.
The situation in Germany has seen the larger southern minors annexed, while operations are beginning to see fruit in the Rhineland, and Austria.

As a general rule I try to keep my armies in groups of 9 divisions, while my police forces consist of 3 divisions. The trouble in Prussia prompted the Belgians to start using some of their police forces as the Prussians had launched a successful invasion across the border into Belgian lands.
The overall situation saw Prussian divisions everywhere including a force of 18 divisions in Berlin. The Belgians now have 2 armies on the front with a third on the way, and once Saxony falls then that number will grow to four.
The Second Battle of Berlin was might well be the lynchpin in the entire war as both sides continue to throw everything they have at each other in an effort to control the city.
The situation is getting critical, so another army is ordered to assist, and is approaching from the southwest.
While all this is taking place, an interesting development is taking place in Austria.
