"Please set registry key HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\.NETFramework\InstallRoot to point to the .NET Framework install location."

  • Error happens everytime I want to run ck2game.exem
  • ck2.exe runs without issues
  • Value of InstallRoot is "C:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework"

Windows 7, 64 bit, not sure what else to post.

Any assistance would be appreciated since I cannot run the DLCs purchased through Steam.

Install every .Net entry in your windows update the launcher needs those framework files to work.

There are no .Net entries published in my Windows Update, nor do they appear when I search for new updates.

Which .Net Framework does the launcher need that the game does not need and how can I configure my OS installation so that the ckIIgame.exe launches?

I'm not 100% sure of which exact .NET versions are required for the CK2 launcher , I believe it's at least 3.5 . Which ones do you have?

You might try the MS .NET repair tool http://www.microsoft.com/en-au/download/details.aspx?id=30135

Note that you can activate the DLCs without the launcher by running CK2.exe -forcedlc

Thank you for your help, I have tried the .Net repair tool without success and it seems since Steam cannot launch the launcher either then the DLC is not downloaded at all, or at least the -forcedlc is not working.

From what I can read from others that have had the same experience with other software I will be forced to re-install my OS, which I have been reluctant to do so far.

Again thank you for your help.

The DLCs end up in your Documents - CK2 - /dlc/ directory. Each one has a .zip and a .dlc file. There's a sticky thread above that details which numbers equate to which DLCs, so you can 100% confirm whether they have or have not come down successfully. If a Steam verify goes through cleanly, though, the DLCs you've bought pretty well must be there.

Which exact .NET frameworks are installed on your machine? The installers for them all are available here http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/down... framework&p=0&r=10&t=&s=Relevancy~Descending

What do you see in registry key HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\.NETFramework\InstallRoot ? Where exactly does it point to, and is .NET in fact there? For reference mine points to C:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework64\ , and that file location lists 2.0, 3.0, 3.5 and 4.0 as being there.

Just to jump in for information regarding NET on Win7 (64).

I got the 4.5 version, only. Three version updates and 7 security updates. So that should be sufficient regarding NET Framework.
@OP To see which version is installed (or is recognised, even if faulty) go to start-system-programs. There should also be something along "show installed updates" or such where you see the NET updates installed.
