I'm trying to understand the spacing in formations relative to ranges and distances. For example, a given ship has a PD/flak/etc. system with a range of 10 - how many ships flying in formation around it would normally be covered by that system? I know that when ships are in combat, positioning will shift depending on the behaviors of the participants, such that other ships may either bunch up near the defending ship or even move away to chase targets. But in general and for standard formations, how close are the ships to each other using the range/distance units? I'm trying to better understand this so I can better balance ideas for changes to PD, flak, etc.
