Hi guys, it appears that Victoria 2 won't be out for a while, in the meantime, I'd like to try something else. A geopolitical game that simulates domestic policy, financial policy, international economics well. ;)

Supreme Ruler 2020 Gold, as I've just found out recently, is also on Paradox's forum. It's similar to Victoria but in a more modern setting. Has anyone ever tried SR2020? How does it compare to Victoria (i've heard that the AIs' pretty terrible)? Or Superpower 2?

I desperately need something to play after my current HOI2 Italian campaign is over.

Thanks!!

I suppose it depends on how far back in gaming history your prepared to go - Hidden Agenda, a text based generic south american country simulator is very good; Floor 13 is a very cynical look at internal espionage in the UK, with a dark sense of homour to boot.

Shadow President is an interesting game, look after trade, diplomacy & public opionion in the USA. It's sequal Cyber Judas was supposed to be very good, but i've never had the fortune to play it.

Unfoturantely they are all quite old, so ebay might be your only option to get them legally, the only other option i can think of is the moraly grey area of abandonware sites.

Imperialism

That was an awesome game did you ever try Imperialism 2? I only played the original but it was really fun and addictive. Not even close to the depth of Victoria, but few games could claim that.

I second these. Imperialism 2 had more scope but somehow didn't feel so much "fun" as the first one... Or maybe I just didn't grasp it fully back then...

I have and Imperialism 2 isn't near as good as Imperialism, because its almost non-existant trade system. You have to expand and build your country self-sufficient in it and most of your income will come from direct income sources, akin gold and diamonds in Imperialism.

Yeah Victoria has more depth, but overall Imperialism is a better game because the depth don't consist of repetitive gameplay and unneeded complexness. War and peace declaration AI sucks big time, though.

imperialism 2 had way too much management. needed to haul a lot of things to even do simple stuff. a lot of menial chores.

naturally, like always in these cases, computer does it much easier and gets ahead and gives you a very tough game, unless you set the difficulty to very very easy.
