I'm not a big mod user primarily because there are / were so many bugs in Stellaris prior to the new patch that I figured more mods = more bugs. I did try a few mods recently that I believe thoroughly improved my gaming experience. I'll list them below, and then I'd like to ask those who use mods to suggest a few and please let me know why you like or suggest that mod. Thanks!

Mods currently installed:

1. Amazing Space Battles - This is one of the best mods I've tried and I simply love it. It slows the battles down and makes the whole experience much more exciting. I have over 1000 hours in Stellaris and I've been bored by the small number of ships in large fleets that actually fire something visible in vanilla and with the speed of the battles. The battles themselves are the best part of the game from my perspective.

2. Extra Ship Components 3.0 - This is a must have for people who are tired of the very limited selection of weapons in vanilla. There are also components that increase sublight speed, building that generate other resources, and a few other surprises. The amazing thing is that the AI uses them as well.

3. UI Overhaul Dynamic + Tiny Outliner - These are simply necessary for anyone who plays with a larger map. The amount of scrolling it saves and the far better UI design are invaluable to me.

What I'd be looking for is an established mod that would make the battles a bit better or would give me more things to build. I would also want something that the AI would use as well. BTW, I'm aware that Starnet is a recommended AI replacement. The thing I don't know about that mod is what difficulty level I would want to start at. I prefer hated empires (purifier, devouring swarm, determined exterminator) and I currently play on Grand Admiral scaling. I find the first 100 years a challenge and then I simply roll over the remaining empires not including the ancients. I usually hit 140-150 years in before I can take on those without many losses. Thanks!

For StarNet, drop the difficulty by, say, two levels from what you're used to. Get the friendship patch if you want more vanilla-esque diplomacy. StarTech, StarNet's sister mod, is a good thing to investigate too (you choose one or the other, not both).

Real Space adds a lot of nice visual flavor to the game:

Also keep an eye out for when its addon New Frontiers is updated. It does new planet classes far, far better than Planetary Diversity. As planet modifiers rather than actual planet types. So it doesn't have silly mono-biome planets and doesn't clutter the trait list.
I'd stay away from System Scale though. It sounds and looks really great (makes the solar systems bigger), but you need compatibility patches with everything that touches or adds to ships. And there is no guarantee that they work. I tried, but then my ships couldn't attack an asteroid.

Instead go the other way and scale down the ships:

And improve fleet formations:
(this for Downscaled Ships. There is also a regular version)

Real Space goes nicely with Beautiful Universe:

This adds new event pictures:

The "At War" mods add some nice ship sections and combat computers, while not being completely bloated like NSC (I also don't like the kitbashed look of the NSC ships):
(there is a compatibility patch between the heavy defense platforms and Downscaled Ships!)

Guilli's Planet Modifiers adds more flavor to planets:

Dynamic Political Events adds some political flavor:

Expanded Politics and Espionage improves what it says:

Potent Rebellions makes internal rebellions possible:

This improves the Khan:

There are several civics mods that are all based on Ethics & Civics Classic, but I prefer this one:
It also has content for Hive Minds and Megacorps. There is a compatibility patch with Forgotten Queens (though that hasn't been updated yet).
And it is going to fix the somewhat broken English translation from Russian in a future version. But as with all ethics mods compatibility with political mods can be iffy. Same with mods that modify districts and such. Though for factions, the worst that happens is that mechanics added by other mods won't use the new factions.

If you want to improve vassal gameplay get "Exalted Domination", "Vassals Expanded and Reworked" and "Vassals Expanded and Reworked - Exalted Domination Patch"

Then there are several events mods like "More Events", "Expanded Events", "Endless Frontier", "Archaeology Story Pack", "Prescursor Story Pack", and "Extra Events". That's always nice once you've seen everything in vanilla.
There are also some mods that add new origins. You can just search for "origins"

Thanks! I saw StarTech, too. Think I'll try the StarNet mod in the future! I'm playing a Star Trek mod now that is working well so far. :)

My goodness! This is quite a complete list and will likely take me a year to explore. How wonderful! Thanks again. I think it's safe to say I have quite a few mods to look at an not much game time. See everyone back on the forums in a couple of years. :)

This is another mod to keep an eye on:

It's an overall combat and ship overhaul. There are other mods that already do similar or even the same things (like "At War"), but the big advantage of this mod is compatibility. It includes a lot of things spread across several other mods, so you can be sure that everything works. Which is always an issue if you need too many compatibility patches from various sources. For example it already increases the system size to nearly twice by its own.
At the same time it already has builtin compatibility or patches for various component/weapons, ethics and AI mods. I feel like this can give it an edge over other mod combinations that spread things around too much.

However, it's still somewhat early in development and there are somewhat frequent adjustments. There are also a lot of discussions about balance. So it may still need more time. But it looks promising.

I can recommend skallas ai overhaul. It is similar to startech.

And ariphaos unofficial patch is also great (and does not massacre non min maxer players like starnet) It focuses more on bugfixes and letting the ai behave more intelligent in general.

If u own nemesis and want better e-spionage i created the mod "meaningful spy operations" which gives u a reason to actually want to run spy operations.

I wish putting "!!", "!" etc. before mod name was a bannable offense.
It used to be necessary for certain mods due to how the load order worked.
