Bought the game and have no idea what I'm doing, but this game is pretty damn neat.

I finished the first intro mission (take out two close by bases, return, they turn on you) and I have 3 non-servicable mechs and 2 lost pilots.

So....do I just start over and suck less or can I or should I hire new pilots and/or buy new mechs? Assuming I can't do much of either this early on.

Thanks.....I'm going to really read up on this game to eliminate these sorts of questions :)

You could give it a go but that early in the game it will be very tough. Your best bet might be redoing the majesty metals mission to get a better start. The 1/2 skull random missions are generally a lot easier than the mm mission but they don't pay very well. The thing that will hurt is waiting for the mechs to get repaired. New pilots are cheep.
Best advice I can give for the majisty metals mission is don't get tied up trying to fight, just get that generator knocked out. Then fight. If it's still tough (after you drop the generator) you can fall back to your starting spot to get support fire from friendly turrets.

What do you mean by non-serviceable? I havent had a mech completely destroyed on me even after I lost a couple of pilots to lucky head shots. Are you sure you cant repair them and replace the weapons and equipment?

If you can repair them, just keep going. The pilots, sadly, are dispensable for most of the game and you will have tons of mechs in time. Keep your costs low and take salvage in negotiations if you have enough money to pay the bills. If you cant fix the mech and are down to just 1, then I think you might need to restart.
