For most of you guys it will be trivial question (I am sure), sooo let's get to it.

Will I need to buy Wealth of nations DLC if I am interested only in Art of War DLC? And will the game still be perfectly compatible with closing out only some (relatively) minor part of game?

Like for example I can't play republics, but still will have the UI and AI playing as if I were owning the DLC?

I own Conquest of Paradise+basic game, so the new sale wave is not that hot for me and don't plan to play EU IV before they add the Art of War DLC (don't want to spoil any fun with inferior (in my eyes) experience to what will be available relatively soon).

Until now, you can always play with any DLC you want, example: You can play today, with Res Publica without CoP or WoN, or WoN without CoP or RP. Or any combinations.

I don´t think they will change this policy.

well that I kinda understood before, my question was more aiming towards the AI abilities and rulesets... and of course the UI

for example I had Victoria 2 with AHD, but until I bought HOD I couldn't set 3 different national stockpiles (dunno if you know vicky :-D) and I suppose there were more rules that I didn't had...

Also, there's a distinction between the DLC and the accompanying patch, which will always be free. Generally, new features, mechanics, and interface elements are part of the DLC, while bug fixes, balance and optimisation tends to be part of the free patch. Sometimes it's hard to tell which is which, but generally the list of features for the DLC are available on the Wiki page for the DLC, and any upgrades not on the feature list is likely free (and thus works with any combination of DLC).

Conversely, non-DLC features released as a coincident patch will usually also be listed on the wiki.

As pertains to the Wealth of Nation DLC, the main difference between buying the DLC or not is that privateering, trade companies, and any events introduced in the DLC will not be available to either player or AI unless you buy the DLC.

There is now some features which available with DLC only, and some features comes with patch and will be available without DLC.
You can read "Patch notes" for more details (major version like 1.6.0, 1.7.0 etc.)

so basically if I want to have most complete experience even as someone who doesn't play republic/coast nation I still have to buy all the DLC's.

I think I thought so from beginning, wanted to be sure about this. Maybe i should recheck the sale ;-)

Features that are blocked for the player due to not owning DLC are also blocked for the AI. Sometimes there's some ancillary logic that's still there (for example, if you don't own Res Publica the AIs will still change their national focuses... but said national focuses have no effect).

You will miss almost nothing if you don't play specifically that, since most of what isn't linked to them came in the free patch. :p But yeah, there is a few differences (national focus, trade companies, etc).

Do re-check the sale! ;-)
