Hi folks,

I was recently crowned King of Ireland (i personally hold 7 of the 13 counties, blood relatives hold 2 more) and I requested an invasion of Scotland from the pope. I am married to the princess of England but i still fear that I do not have enough troops to take Scotland. If i recall correctly, the defender of a war gets some form of bonus when it comes to levies (their free or they get more, i can't remember). I have about 200 gold so i could hire some mercs or build up some more castle upgrades.

Is there a way to increase the chance England will support me in the invasion? Or does anyone else have any generic tips that might help? I have minimal crown authority so i cannot replace generals at the moment.

Oh and my leader just turned 50. If I start the war and he dies, does it automatically end like some of the claim wars?

Thanks,

Jec

1) Defenders have a slight advantage in the sense that the levies which they are unable to field in the battleground can help with the defence during sieges.
2) Make sure England like you more than they like Scotland.
3) Yes. For Invasion CB, the war will end if your leader dies.

How can i see how much two npcs like each other?

Also, for an invasion CB, i have to personally occupy a holding to keep it afterwards right? so if England sieges a castle, i'm not going to keep it.
If so, is there a way I can say "Hey thanks for killing that army, you can go home now?"

When you declare war, go to the call ally button, and see how many + and - are present when you mouse over the "Maybe" tab. Also, you can't dismiss allies once you call them. They only stand down when you do.

You don't have to personally hold all holdings. But in case someone else has a war going on and they claim territory, it might go to them instead of you. All land your allies claim is yours, either way.

Ok good i don't have to worry about beating the English to sieges then.

Wouldn't really make since but i remember some quirks with certain CBs (with EUIII anyway).

If you -really- need England's help try sending their ruler a little gift of gold, "just because"
(wink wink nudge nudge)

Not to derail my own thread but i did something similiar last night. After 30 hours of playing i discovered where the plot button was (i know kinda sad). So i decided i wanted a certain ruler to have an accident so his heir (my newphew's wife) could take the throne. I needed support for the plot and noticed the target's spymaster would give something like 80% plot power if he joined. He was on the fence but when i handed him 20 gold, his reaction was "DONE!". Needless to say without his own spymaster to protect him, the poor sod died a week later.

I wonder if the king of England (my brother in law) knows what really happened (was his nephew i killed)?

Edit: I also dethroned another noble whose spymaster joined without my bribe. I really do hope my spymaster likes me...

You only have to beat them to the sieges if you want to personally hold all holdings in Scotland at the end of the war. All holdings that you haven't sieged will become your vassals, but anything you've sieged will become part of your demesne, so you can hand it out to good Irishmen.

This is not uncommon, since characters with high Intrigue tend to have.... questionable morals. And yes, do shore up your own spymaster's opinion towards you.

At the level of pure combat tactics, try the following:

1) Hire enough mercs to make a stack 1/2 to 2/3 the size of the Scots stack. Position them in Ulster. Position your own troops as a reserve one province behind that. Tyrone or Oriel, I think?
2) The Scots won't be able to see your reserve army. They'll start crossing into Ulster. Send your reserves in so they'll arrive a couple days after the Scots do.

The mercs will get slaughtered of course... but that will decrease the cost to maintain them. And you'll be able to get the Scots in an extended battle where they suffer the amphibious assault penalty.

That worked like a charm. I won the invasion but i had to hastily end it because england eventually joined the scots. I had taken the primary holding of very scottish county and enforced demands. To my suprise, only the king was ousted, every single vassal of his became my vassal.

I'm playing with CK2+ if it makes a difference. I did a search through its features and changelog and didn't see any changes to Invasions. Do you ahve to literally take every holding in a county to oust the count? I thought you just had to take his castle.

On another note, only the king's men marshaled. The other scots stayed in their castles (might have had something to do with the fact that the scottish king was known as "the cruel").
