Try to ally the UK, that might discourage then.

It is. They have laughable tech. Seriously though, if you form Greater Germany and also snag more than just A-L off of France, you should never have to worry about them again.

Oh also need help with government. I want to keep Prussian constituionalism, because the german empire is cooler than the tri-color german flag. And fits the time period better. At what point does Prussian constituionalism become an hms goverment?

looking at the event file, it will become hms government when you get non-secret or secret ballots. so just don't get non-secret ballots and you can keep Prussian constitutionalism.

however, there is a line in the GER - Germany.txt file (as well as France and Spain iirc) that makes hms government have the democracy flag, even though it should have the monarchy flag, so you could remove that line (iirc though, it won't affect saves, just new games)

no, it's a different line along the lines of "hms government=democracy flag" (I can't remember exactly though as I deleted it)

for France and Spain they start off as hms governments but have the democracy flag rather than the monarchy flag (white with gold for France and red cross for Spain)

I had to mod the game to prevent my Republic of China from getting that Imperial Qing flag. It was really annoying to have monarchy flag in a republic (even though the Qing flag itself is awesome).

It seems tied to ballot political reforms, really. Until I enacted secret ballots, all my democracies had monarchy flag.

Just one of the things Paradox never fixed in this game.

Most likely that was of the event finding Neptune or Thoracic Surgery invention from Medicine tech.

Obviously there are no longer any patches, but I think that Prestige should no longer factor into being a GP. Being a one hit wonder in science does not a GP make...

Prestige is already potent enough in that it determines your priority for the supply of limited goods on the world market.

I figured you meant that prestige was the only thing determining in what order you get to buy off the market. It was said to be so in one of the early manuals IIRC and people wrongly believed so until a dev clarified. My mistake.

WW1 was escalated over issues of prestige, and the fact that pulling out of a crisis can jeopardize your GP status is very accurate.
