Greetings All,

I need HELP!!

I'm playing as King of Leon, just inherited Galacia and Castille, and have conquered an adjacent emirate.
One of my Dukedoms has just rebelled - I'm laying siege to Porto, the enemy laying siege to Santiago.

Question 1
I thought I won my siege, the defenders depleted down to zero, but apparently not, because the siege continues.
If you pull your troops, thinking you've won, the siege is declared over, and the defenders win.
How and when can you tell when the siege is successful? In EU4 it was very clear about the siege’s end - not here.

Question 2
How can I get the Porto Duchess to stop from rebelling in the first place?
She had a -50 attitude toward me when I inherited Galacia, and only got worse.
She aligned with my uncle to get him a dukedom, so they are in league with each other.
Looks hopeless to placate her, determined to rebel, so it seems to me.

Anyway, any help and advice will be greatly appreciated, thanks!

1. You win when the castles morale hits 0 and you get a popup telling you you have won like in EU4. Try waiting a few days for it to activate, otherwise its a bug. Though I have to say I've never had any problems with sieges

2. Imprison or kill her and she can't rebel. Make sure your stronger than her faction and she will probably just wait.

There should have been a pop-up to show your army declaring victory, and the province will acquire cross-hatching with your national colors (i.e. the ones on your border) in some of the map modes (Terrain I know has it).

At that low level it's hard to recover. I'd honestly conquer her, revoke her title, and give it to someone more loyal.

Note that if you leave her in prison, she can't rebel either.

Another option is to marry one of your close family members to one of hers; that should create a Nonaggression Pact (preventing her from rebelling) and let you kick the can down the road. Note that when either you or she dies, the Pact will end, but if you are still closely tied, you can renew it with her successor. Also, be careful who you choose to marry with her; if you marry a daughter to her heir, that could give their kid an eventual claim to your titles. Much better to marry a younger child to a younger child, so everyone's far down in the succession. On the other hand, marrying your heir to one of her kids means that your grandchild will inherit a claim on her titles, which can be exploited when that grandchild inherits.

Every time she rebels you get a free title revoke (she'll hate you for it, but if the negative opinion is terminal already it doesn't matter). So you can eliminate her through repeatedly putting down rebellions. You can also send your spymaster to scheme in her territory so as to find excuses to imprison her. With such a high negative opinion she will be plotting something.
As others have said, once in prison you are safe from her.

Anyway, any help and advice will be greatly appreciated, thanks!

1) You probably won the initial siege (did the morale bar drop all the way to zero and then cross-hatches appear on the political map?), though there are also other holdings that make up a single province that also need to be sieged down. Generally the churches and cities will be considerably quicker to siege up than a castle, though you do still need to have your army sit there until the process is done for that holding. Otherwise if you try move your army away, the siege is then lifted on that holding the same as EU4. On the bright side though, CK2 sieges are definite and have zero RNG involved (other than random siege events which will influence the morale bar or lower your troop count) unlike EU4.

2) If you can't bribe someone you can hope your vassal will try and do something foolhardy like plotting to kill a random courtier and getting caught. This gives you license to arrest and imprison them (though you may have to fight a quick war to actually throw them into your dungeon). Other possibilities include forcing their hand by lowering their opinion of you even more by racking up a little tyranny, siding against them in random events, giving them the Court Jester honorary title, etc. so they rebel sooner. There are also some more subtle ways to deal with them, such as fabricating claims and revoking some of their land (no tyranny incurred with a claim), placing them on your Council (if you have Conclave), having them killed via Way of Life's Intrigue focus or a simple kill plot. If nothing else works, then simply save up for some mercenaries if need be, place an army on their capital and wait for them to rebel.

The provinces are divided into holdings [ Castle, City, Temple] you have to siege all the province holdings a province that is fully siege has soild strips across it and dotted strips for provides that haven't been fully siege

Wonderful replies, thanks to all for your help, clears up a lot of things, much appreciated!

UPDATE
Crisis Averted, Rebellion Threat is Gone!

I bought off my uncle, gave him what he wanted [titles], including Court Chaplain and sent him off to Rome.
Threw my Chancellor, Marshal and Spymaster into Porto to Fabricate Claims, Suppress Revolts and Scheme.

Without the uncle, the Porto Duchess plotting went down significantly, and the Scheming finally paid off - I was able to throw her treacherous arse into the dungeon without penalty!
BTW, I did engage in a simple kill plot, and got a few joiners, but it never really went anywhere.

Great suggestions all about handling rebellions and sieges - I'm keeping notes for future reference.
Thanks again!

Happy to help, but here's one more tip. When you become an Empire, you're allowed to have king-tier vassals. The Papacy happens to be a king-tier title, so if you create an Anti-Pope you can press the Anti-Pope's claim and then vassalize the Papacy. You can then ask your vassal pope for excommunications and claims at will (both of which can be used as a handy vassal management tool), as long as you have some piety in exchange. You'll also become filthy rich since you'll effectively be taxing nearly every bishop in the Catholic world through the Pope. Alternatively, you could also become a Fraticelli heretic (use the Theology focus or have your court chaplain research culture tech) and create the Fraticelli Papacy which will confer the same benefits plus allow you to holy war and crusade the Catholics.
