I've been away from HoI for some time but am really looking forward to getting back into it with the new expansion coming out. I want to tweak my 36 campaign so the Germans have new leadership since I find it uncomfortable enjoying playing Hitler and the rest of the NSDAP. I enjoy alternate history and have been working up a very large backstory. Basically I'm trying to keep the event/timelines pretty much the same but have the circumstances and causes different, replacing Hitler with a not-evil-just-misunderstood Paul von Lettow-Vorbeck as head of a German military regime (an idea taken directly from somebody else's alternate history).

I'm to the point where the Germans end up intervening in a communist uprising in Czechoslovakia. The communists will be fighting a pseudo-fascist Czech military leader who will later become the HoS for a puppet Czech state.

Unfortunately I don't know anything about the Czech military leadership in 38/39. Who would be a reasonable choice for the military dictator of this pseudo-fascist Czech state? For that matter, a suggestion for a communist-sympathizing Czech leader from the late 30s would be appreciated as well.

Thanks for any suggestions.

Konrad Henlein was the pro-Nazi leader of Sudetenland Germans who wanted to join Germany. I'm not sure if he's listed as a minister.

Interestingly, it seems that the in-game minister Edvard Benes was a Czechoslovakian National Socialist. According to the wikipedia article, he even expelled ethnic Germans and Hungarians!

Jan Syrovy may be your best bet. A general, he actually took command of Czechoslovakia during a brief period after Benes resigned after accepting the Munich Pact claims. You could make Syrovy as a sort of Petain. He's already listed in the Czechoslovakian minister files.

The Czechoslovakian National Socialist Party was completely different from the NSDAP however.

A little more background from me would probably have helped here. In this alternate setup:
- Lettow-Vorbeck is the relatively benevolent authoritarian leader of Germany. He smashed the NSDAP prior to 1936. His main agenda is reversing the Treaty of Versailles and merging all Germans into Greater Germany. He tries to do this peacefully but, of course, it doesn't work out that way......
- In September 38 Czechoslovakia is torn apart by ethnic strife. The Communists become a major force and a civil war breaks out between them and anti-Communist forces.
- The Germans occuppy the Sudetenland to stop the slaughter of Sudeten German civilians as the civil war starts. They never leave.
- The Germans avoid sending ground troops into the remainder of the Czech state, but they lend the Luftwaffe's direct support along with other forms of assistance to the anti-Communist Czech forces.
- The anti-Communist forces win in the Czech lands, while Slovakia becomes independent and the Hungarians and Poles slice off hunks of the former Czechoslovakia for themselves.
- The anti-Communist Czech military leader (which is the guy I'm really looking for) establishes a fascist-leaning government in the remainder of the state and becomes a puppet of the Germans, without whose help they would have lost the civil war.

Syrovy is definitely a possibility. Thanks for the suggestion. Any more ideas for Communists or anti-Communists would be appreciated.
