ok so i have taken on EU3 Divine Wind, ive played couple of games and still dont understand economy....with Spain it was not a problem because i had ALL America, half of africa, most of asia. obiously i had LOTS of CoTs (all mercantalism) and LOTS of money making resources. the ottomans start great good balance and good tech. my problem is that i go broke because i need to build an army cuz if i dont i cant fight Timeruds, golden horde, and the light green ones on top of timeruds (there so weak its not a problem but its still not helping). I need advise on how to boost economy i have the little providence under athens and everything from albania to the timeruds normal borders. athens is independent and venice owns somestuff there and theres the holy order still there...This brings me to the BIG problem....I CANT STAND THE ALLIANCE SYSTEM!!! ok so in one game i declared war on leinster as england, they were allied with tyrone who was allied to france, france was allied to burgundy, and 2 other people, burgundy had spain (who killed my navy, BY THE WAY) and the spain excomunicated me and called in tutonic order, denmark (Who had a union with sweden and norway) by the end of that month i had more wars then napoleon, half of europe was in the war....

Are you building province upgrades? Building upgrades boosts the economy long-term, though it can put a dent in your budget in the short-term. Also, remember to actually trade in your CoT, in case you weren't already. Also, make sure your army and navy isn't much bigger than the limit (going over it hurts your economy). Also, how much are you minting? If you, as Spain own so much territory, you may be suffering from over-extention, if you expanded too quickly and have/got a ruler with low ADM stats.

About the alliances, be more careful before declaring war. Take your time and wait for alliances to dissolve or bigger countries to end up in large wars, so they can't afford to intervene in yours.

Hope this helps some...

Cascading alliances are a pain, alright, but it's not like what happened to you is a normal thing. In fact, that might be the worst cascade I ever heard of. France, Burgundy, Spain, Denmark and Sweden are all major powers. Whew, that's tough. OK, I guess I did have a war against Brittany, Burgundy, Austria, Bohemia, Switzerland and Milan once when I was France, around 1410 or so, so maybe it ain't that rare. But still, don't expect it to always be that bad. Expect it to be bad, just not that bad.

four or ten times later you should get used to it and remember to check the allies of the allies, the guranteeors (sp?), whom ever warned you, the sphere of influence influencer and all of the above's vassals and union partners and of course the defender of the faith. that way you can figure out who's the biggest in the stack and then check out who they're allied with and so on. then in the end you'll get a nice clear picture of what exactly you're up against!

The Ottoman economy isn't that bad. You should try to take Alexandria, Ashtrakan and Fars/Hormuz and/or build a CoT in Thrace, so you have some places to trade in. Don't bother in the European CoT's since they'll embargo you a lot. Ottoman tech group is slower, but start higher than Europe, so you have already constables, docks and marketplaces on your cores. With Ottomans I try to not bother Golden Horde and Timurids at the same time while they are still strong. Given time they will collapse, and you can start taking their lands.

Until then, keep your wars with them short. As a horde, they do fight a lot of wars at the same time, so usually you can get get away with demanding/offering a concessions of defeat as their are busy elsewhere. Maybe take a single province now and then. Remember to reduce army maintenance to 50% in peace time.
