True, but since we're talking about alternative history mods there's no reason why the world couldn't industrialize sooner. In fact the main invention that begun the industrial era: the steam engine, was invented in Ancient Egypt during the Hellenistic era and there were even books about it in the Library of Alexandria before it burned down. Likewise these ancient civilizations had access to vital resources like iron, cotton, timber, etc, there's no practical reason for these ancient civilizations to not have industrialized long before the industrial revolution. What did actually stop them was simply a lack of necessity, since slaves were common place and human labor in general was extremely cheap, there was simply no need for machines to do the work of slaves/cheap laborers. Continuing on the alternative history path, if you start industrializing long before the actual industrial revolution, than resources like rubber and even oil would also have been discovered much sooner, arguably even faster than they have during the actual industrial revolution considering that back there were proportionally more scholars during those days than in the 19th century, so when the need arose, the research would have soon followed, just as it did during the industrial revolution, only with more and arguably even smarter people.
