Necronomicon events

I've got the Necromonicon through the scholarship chain, and I've now changed my mind and want to start gaining piety again. Is there any way to get rid of this accursed tome? I've changed my way of life focus to 'Family', I don't know if that has disqualified me from triggering any events to get rid of it. Any help appreciated.

Its quite fun, your successor gets an event about strange eastern men breaking into your predecessor's library.

Once you step to the dark side your never get back.
But on a more serious note how much was the piety modifier from necronomicon? Could you stack vassal piety buildings,traits and so on enough to get back on positive? Haven´t gotten that trait myself so don´t know. I ain´t much of a scholar in my games.

The piety modifier is -2.00 monthly. Doesn't help that my character is also cynical. But you've got to be somewhat cynical about the church's teachings to look for something more in dusty tomes from the east!

It's an interesting trade off.. You get a one time shot of 200 culture tech points (and a small risk of becomming insane) in exchange for a lifetime of reduced piety and 100 gold, or you get 30 culture tech points and can carry on normally.

Either way, you get 100 more tech points for finishing the event chain.

Personally, I would generally take the necronomicon, especially if your character is old. 200 culture tech points is a big boost, especially on the early states if you're racing to get out of gavelkind, or for Muslims who want to unlock matrilineal marriages for extreme OPness.

I don't think there's any easy way to overcome the piety malus - stacking other sources of piety gain is the way to go.

That said, the observatory is ridiculously OP if properly exploited. One can tech military and culture like crazy with it.

After the tiny % death from sex event that manages to wipe out every ruler I have (but appreciate cause they died lying back and thinking of... England.) this is my favourite event in the entire game.
