Hello all,

Maybe it is just me, but I find the current rule of necromancy (reviving) post that are more than one month old makes no sense:
1) if somebody is bringing up an old post its because he or they find it interesting or useful, and in many cases it would be better to keep the previous participants in the thread involved than to open a new thread.
2) One month is probably too short, but I agree that reviving a 2 year old thread would be senseless.
3) Why does the forum not lock threads up automatically once the X month rule without activity passes by? That way you avoid restarting an interesting exchange in an older thread which eventually will be cut short by the "thread closed for necromancy" rule.

Thoughts?

This is more of a General question so I moved it to the General forum. To answer your questions:

Yes and no, there are cases when this is a valid point but most of the times if the thread hasn't had a reply for a very long time the problem the original posters had was solved. I should also add that I appreciate that users search the forum before posting (srsly, I do!) but making a new post about an issue others had months ago warrants its own thread.
2) One month is probably too short, but I agree that reviving a 2 year old thread would be senseless.
It kind of depends on the thread really, some things aren't solved in a month, some things are.
3) Why does the forum not lock threads up automatically once the X month rule without activity passes by? That way you avoid restarting an interesting exchange in an older thread which eventually will be cut short by the "thread closed for necromancy" rule.
This is a very good point and one we intend to rectify :)! We have an addon that will be installed in the future that warns users about to make a reply that the thread is over X months old and to please reconsider.

Thanks @TinyWiking for the quick feedback, I think your add on is a good compromise between the two options.

Something I would find really ironic is if someone necromances this thread.
