Necromancy and lich?

How do you gain thost traits? Or can you?

If you have high learning and are a mage(you might need to be a scholar too) there is an event that allows you to become a necromancer. Once you are a necromancer you will gain access to a few new spells, one of which makes you a lich.

18:59 - Percy: Ok, so you need to be at least 25
18:59 - Percy: Not a prisoner and capable (aka not be incapable or infirm and stuff)
19:00 - Percy: Not in command
19:00 - Percy: You need to be ambitious, or cruel, ruthless, tyrant, envious, reckless or impaler
19:00 - Percy: Any level of mage, battlemage 3,4, nightblade 4 or priest 4
19:01 - Percy: Not be kind, just, meridia religion, already a necromancer
19:01 - Percy: And then the event should happen
19:01 - Percy: Once every 300 months
19:01 - Percy: Content, absent minded, honorauble, cynical and zealous increase the period

Strangely, nobody mentioned the possibility for your child to become a necromancer when it joins the Mage guild.

Can somebody tell me how high the chance to survive the ritual for becoming a lich is?
And are there things to get a higher chance?
I tried it once and my character died.
