the latest update in CKII changed the coat of arms of Russian Empire and Ruthenia Kingdom (which never existed historically btw) to the Nazi variant of the Rurikid seal. true, some of the Rurikid grand princes of ancient Rus' states (which were many), sometimes used the Rurikid seal, however it was black and white, not Nazi blue and yellow, and in archaic diving hawk design, from which it derived, not XIX century design Paradox offers, which later was used by the Nazi. that aside, the Rurikid seal was never used by Russian Emperors/Tsars even those of Rurikid blood. for example, Ivan IV was a Rurikid and the first Tsar. his seal was 2 headed eagle, which was used as Russian imperial seal since him till XX century. i.e. there never was a Russian empire that used diving hawk in any form as its seal.

Paradox was using mostly historically accurate and not Nazi related symbols for Russia for 7 years. why use this highly insulting and historically inaccurate symbol now? it very much looks like a part of recent anti-Russian hysteria. being a Paradox fan, i see Paradox's participation in such dirty political games highly disappointing.

Hasn´t imperial eagle been CoA of Russia after Byzantine Empire fell? You know, in 1453, when the game ends?

Plus, blue and yellow version seems to be CoA of modern Ukraine, so while it might have been created during German occupation of Ukraine in WW2 (I am not that familiar with Ukrainian history), calling it "symbol that has been used by the Nazi", while maybe technically correct, is wrong because you are trying to twist the truth by portraying something that is official coat of arms of a modern country as something "Nazis did and that´s it".

yes, Russian Empire was formed much later. as is British Empire. or German Empire. while Wendish Empire or Volga-Ural never existed. how is it relevant here? ok, let's assume Paradox wanted an older symbol, unfounded it may be. why not use archaic black and white diving hawk? why this XIX century Nazi related symbol?

the problem is modern Ukraine adopted exactly the Nazi symbol exactly because it was Nazi. for example, just a week ago there was a march with torches in Kiev, like one of those German Nazi did in 1930s. people were carrying these tridents, portraits of Nazi criminals, chanting "hang all Russians" and Nazi salutes, which i can not quote without breaking the forum rules. the march was state sanctioned and state supported. the march was on a state holiday commemorating the birthday of one Stefan Bandera, who was an officer of Nazi Waffen SS, organization condemned criminal on the Nuremberg trials, and directly responsible for Volhynia massacre, Lviv massacre and others. do check the news. though not fake news maybe. they tend to not notice such things.

It is literally the coat of arms of the Rurikids. Are you calling Rurik and his descendants nazis?

At the same time you are also claiming that the kingdom of Ruthenia never existed even though it was formed in 1199. Granted they didn't change the name to Ruthenia until 1253 but it still very much existed. It is by far the most logical symbol to use for the historical kingdom of Ruthenia.

Maybe it doesn't make much sense for Russia as a whole to use but then again what does for the time period?

I'm inclined to say you are just trolling, I mean you are probably the only person in the whole world making this connection, not very effective anti russian propaganda is it if no one understands it.

no. it derived from the Rurikid coat of arms. the actual Rurikid diving hawk is different design and different color. look up actual artifacts of the time.

you're contradicting yourself. grand principality of Galicia-Volhynia was one of many ancient Russian states, had nothing to do with Rurikid seal and had nothing to do with Kingdom of Ruthenia. Ruthenia is a toponim interchangeable with Rus'. this toponim identified lands from White Sea to Black Sea and from Baltic to Volga river. land, not states. the Kingdom of Ruthenia as identified in CKII never existed neither as sate by that name nor as identified land by that name.

Let me put your mind to rest and promise you that we are not part of "anti-Russian hysteria" as you put it. The connection you are making is sadly incorrect as we've not made any changes to the game based on the political climate as it is today. It's all game related, nothing more, nothing less. If you feel so strongly about it I'd recommend a mod or something that changes the imagery you find offensive as we (as far as I know) have no plans to change it.

This thread is locked as you've made your point and we've also discussed this privately via the help desk and nothing good will come from this thread being left open.
