Will the naval aspect of the game be improved?

Also what types of ships will there be? Any new ones? And will the smaller ones be attachments like in Victoria or will there be independent?

Hopefully we can have more information about naval unit. One problem in HoI was when upgrading ships. You never know what upgrades were added. I'm hoping that we can choose every upgrades. When clicking naval unit,we should also see gun caliber&how many guns, tonnage, lenght, is radar fitted & model, how many AA-guns, armor, torpedoes, etc. When I saw only combat stats I don't feel they are real ships. :( Only adding gun caliber and tonnage makes them feel more real.

And this time it would be nice to have ships with "real" naval armaments. No more 15 cm battleships ;) Instead, 14 inch, 16 inch...etc

Regarding graphics for ships, I think that letting each class have its own graphics would be outstanding. (On the other hand, many designs had a similar look - for example the King George V battleships and the aborted Lion class - so some reductions can certainly be made.)

I also think that light cruisers should be separated from heavy cruisers. And coastal defence ships should probably be in as well.

I particularly like the tonnage/gun size/ etc. idea already mentioned. It doesn't even have to have any real affect on gameplay (well, except perhaps gun size ;) ) but it would add a nice feel. Plus, detailed stats on WWII warship-classes is fairly easy to obtain.

I'd also like to have an easier way of selecting different ship classes than the pull down menu. Perhaps a whole seperate Build Unit screen, similar to the seperate Tech screen in HoI 1, where you can select the basic Crusier/Carrier/DD/BB, etc, and then chose from the more specific ship classes. Essex-class carrier, or a cheaper CVE? Bismarck-class BB or a Pocket Battleship?

A slow, heavy armed and armoured cruiser like the Graf Spee.
"Panzerkreuzer" in German

There were no 15cm battleship guns in HoI (in primary batteries at least). There was a tech called 150mm+ Battleship guns, but that just represented all of them with less than 14" and greater than 6" bore (why they picked that 6" as a lower end is anyones guess, obviously it caused confusion). You know, 11", 12", 12.6", 13.4" and so one.

Pocket battleships. It was also a class of cruisers that appeared in the 1880s and was obsolete after 1906.

Armoured cruisers formed the most effective part of the Royal Navy's cruiser fleet throughout the Great War. The designation became obsolete after Washington naval treaty replaced the more traditional designations with two artificial classes - the light and the heavy cruiser (well, light cruisers had existed before that though).

As for the panzerschiffes, I don't think they warrant a class of their own. They were just overgunned cruisers. Similar to the British Furious class I guess. ;)

Learn from CORE, and fix the AI

HOI2 could learn a lot from the CORE mod, which has already addressed the class and tech problems raised here.

Also, there are three crippling problems with the AI at the moment:

1) The computer does not attempt to hunt convoys.

2) The computer seems to make no attempt to protect sealanes when I hunt convoys.

3) The computer does not use stand-off carrier tactics, which are the whole point of carrier war.

Touching on the third point, may of the Pacific Ocean provinces are so big that carrier aeroplanes cannot attack an enemy in another province. This means that carrier warfare is impossible in the one theatre where it was crucial.

HoI2 should also get rid of torpedo bombers as there were no real air group size units in WWII.

However, i think remember there being a german battleship that was sunk by biplanes which were "too slow" for it to hit them using AAA.

Oh yes,
and an other big problem is the different types of vessels.
The AI doesn't know which type to build for which kind of tasks (destroyer, corvette, torpedoboat, light cruiser, heavy cruiser and so on)

The AI needs major improvement badly. But thats limited by the engines capability.

It would be nice if it could learn from your tactics.

Ah well; there is MP for that purpose.

But I agree, AI should be better at naval; but I think Land AI isn't all that bad ... I have seen much worse.
