Do you think that you'll depend more on your Naval, Land, or Air units? Will most of you build up massive armies and conquer a continent? A great fleet to control the seas? Or a super-powered Air Force to control the skies? :D I know everyone will want a mixture of the three. But, which do you think you'll depend most on? Though, it'll depend on the nation too... :)

Definately depends on the nation. Some nations don't have to worry about projecting power over the ocean. All will have to have an airforce, especially for offensive actions. I am partial to ground forces myself.

I'll go for the most powerful air force ever......:D
The problem is that if you have 4 planes and 1 tank, and the enemy have 4 tanks and 1 plane, who do think will win at the end of the day? :D

When I'll play Italy, I think I'll focus on the Army: the Navy was already quite good, and I'll use it only to protect convoys from Sicily to Libya. I'll have to develop Air Force too, expecially fighters and tactical bombers, instead I'll not be interested in strategic bombers: too expensive and unuseful for Italy. Moreover fighers and assault bombers can be useful to attack the British Navy if it'll come near Sicily. ;)
Italian Army had old weapons and only few trucks and tankettes: I'll build a lot of trucks, but, instead of building expensive tanks, I'll focus on assault guns (Semoventi), they were very useful in WW2, expecially because they are less expensive than tanks (and in fact Italy was forced to stop the production of tanks in 1943 to build more assault guns).

I frankly can't wait to play Germany. I think I will build up land forces and nacy at the expense of aircraft so I can destroy the Royal Navy

Japan and the US are the only ones I think have a justification for a large Navy, due to the large size of the Pacific theater.
England?
Well, to protect the colonies I suppose, but not to defend the Brittish Islands from invasion. The RAF can do that a lot more effective and cheaper......

I have always loved to play Germany in WW2 games. This one won´t be an exception I presume.
I think I´ll focus on the Army and Air Force and maybe the submarines. I will probably attack east more than west... The navy isn´t really that useful on the steppes... :)

Well yes, it will almost certainly depend on what nation you play for two reasons. One, you'd want to mirror the good strategies, like USA building a strong airforce, or Germany, increasing their tank tech. Two, you'll want to *Change* history, so you might be compelled to reduce sub production in favour of surface fleets and their corresponding techs, not to mention heavy bombers. I really do think, that if Britain loses Malta, and Egypt, and you can keep a relatively menacing presence in the Atlantic-South Eastern Atlantic, then you'll snag the UK, and beat them..
lets hope, otherwise Russia is off the option list!

When asked this question, I always tend to fall back on a well-accepted military axiom: Everything exists to support the infantry.

Ships and planes can't take and hold ground.

That being said, the question really has too many variables to answer, as a lot depends on what nation the question is being asked of and what that nation's strategy will be.

Overall, though, I would have to say that I would prioritize as follows: land, air, naval.

Just for the record, little Belgium didn't just surrender. The Belgians held their line against the Germans for a few days. They would've held out a lot longer, but the French and the B.E.F. abandoned them in an attempt to save some of their men. Belgium had to stretch their lines even further, to let the French and the B.E.F. try and escape. In the end, the king of Belgium, King Leopold, surrendered to the Germans, against the wishes of his government. The Belgians could have kept fighting, and would have, if the king had followed constitutional procedures (for the king was subject to the government's decisions, not the other way around). Little Belgium fought pretty hard, and in the end, (like much of the rest of the world) was just overwhelmed by Germany, and their new methods of attack.
Belgium did last longer than Denmark (which surrendered without fighting) and the Netherlands. So in order to play Belgium sucessfully, a human player would only have to do two things. One, don't abandon a military alliance with Britain and France in exchange for neutrality, and two, don't listen to King Leopold. In the end, it's probably still a foregone conclusion, but maybe the human player can get Belgium to fight for a week, instead of only five days. :)

I would like to go Navy...but...really can't answer this question until after I play the game.;)

In the time frame of EUII a navy was essential for colonization. However, in EUII the game....a navy was not needed at all.:(

If you need a Navy (or how important the Navy is) in HoI will depend on how the game is modeled. It should be essential for at least America or Japan to win the war. Wether it is or not remains to be seen.

From EUII experience: A Navy should be an essential piece of being a colonial power in EUII. It was in real life during that time period. In EUII, it is nice but not required to colonize the entire world.:( Once you discover the new world, you can just raise thousands of troops from your tiny colony, annex a few indian tribes, and then you're rolling...no Navy required. Pretty unrealistic IMHO.

I hope HoI will make the Navy more important to success in the game.:) I have my fingers crossed.:)
