Encountered an odd bug after starting a game as the UK. In the naval map mode the territory you control is highlighted in green - when I selected a fleet in Sierra Leone and was taken to the naval map mode French territory was highlighted instead.

Not exactly sure what caused the bug and it was fixed immediately after restarting the game - thought it was worth bringing up here though.

The diplomatic mode looks very similar.

If you click on the naval map mode then you will get green for all of UK territory on the map. Try and select the fleet in Sierra Leone when zoomed out. If you right click on a province around it (French) then France is selected. Dismiss the Diplomacy screen, and you are still in naval map mode, but with the France's territory highlighted. Going back to Default map mode, then back to naval map mode clears it. There might be other combinations that would have this effect.

As France is an ally (usually) then it's quite useful to see the range of their ships and what naval regions they can cover. You can see the hatched red areas ships can't reach - that's for France not for you.
