It would be interesting if you could build the Suez Canal - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Suez_Canal

Especially since India is on the map - it would open interesting routes...

Edit:
Come on, guys. This is clearly in the time-frame:
"The canal left the Nile at Bubastis. An inscription[36] on a pillar at Pithom records that in 270 or 269 BC, it was again reopened, by Ptolemy II Philadelphus."

Looking at the early zoomed in screenshots of Sicily it really seemed like even the tiny river in the east of Sicily was broad enough to function as both a visible and gameplay barrier of troops trying to cross and to allow ships to visually sail on them.

Looking forward to see if that's the case though.

Will they exist? I really hope so, especially since Egypt/that area will be one of my favorites to play in.
Presence of a navigable river should be included in some commercial bonus for the near cities. Something like an extra trade route slot or some other bonus to commerce.
Probably It was already included in the initial setup.

A few major rivers are potential candidates for being made navigable, I think.

Nile, Ganga, Rhine, Danube, Indus, and either Tigris or Euphrates (or probably both).

I personally think that it would fit more in a late-antiquity expansion rather than Hellenistic world. That's because that was the period when Constantinian Rome, Sassanid Persia and Gupta India, all three giant empires had actual specialized river fleets and combat.

Kinda has to have naval-combat....ck2 can get away with its omission but not late classical europe. That'd just be bizzare. Considering the prominence of various naval battles/naval sieges. Crazy b** sieged syracuse with siegetower ships IIRC and them Carthaginians made ships flatpack IKEA style yo.

Naval combat has not been spoken about in the DDs (but maybe I missed something?) so lets hold our horses on the "No Naval combat" before it spreads to far from Black Turtle... :)

I took the time to ask the few developers who are not on holidays, to the best of their knowledge rivers will not be navigable. I'll ask again once everyone is back to be sure at 100% - wouldn't like to mislead you guys!

Nothing to worry about, really. CK2 didn't have navigable rivers until much later either. :p

To do with rivers, I hope when your armies are crossing them it takes extra time as they may have to build bridges etc. I think this would make interesting gameplay.

THEY BETTER HAVE NAVY BATTLES! Come on people have we forgotten about the serious pirate problems in the classical era? The Great navies of Rhodes. But I would love to see an in-depth navel trade if you get what I mean?

I'm sure it can be added in later.

I really want to see travel on the Nile.

i dont see why some of them couldnt be, considering its possible to do in CK2

Again, I'll check with the team once they are back. Just in case if rivers aren't navigable, I'll add that to my suggestion report to the devs!
