Hi all,

I am fairly new to HOI4 but have been playing the earlier HOI's for a number of years. I am playing a duo game as Communist China, with my brother as the Soviets (I am in the Comintern).

After pushing Japan out of Korea it was time to invade the Japanese mainland. We were invading Nagasaki and the surrounding provinces in the same sea zone (so that we only had to get Naval Supremecy in one zone).

The Soviets established sustained naval supremecy (not just a lucky window to invade) via air / navy. At this point i rolled in my 7 T2 subs to 'assist'.

However, my naval supremecy was showing as 0%. As such I have the following questions:

1. Was my navy too small to overcome an in built threshold?

2. Is naval supremecy supposed to be alliance wide? This would be the case irl surely?

3. Is this a known bug?

The Soviets were able to land with a small force and we defeated Japan but the fight was much more inefficient than it should have been.

Any ideas?

You need intel to get naval superiority now. There seems to be a bug currently where fleets don't properly generate intel.

Presumably this is decryption? I can confirm that i did not have this tech as was only in 1939 (lots to research when you start with 2 completed at atart of game). Is just T1 decryption needed?

This may solve point 1, but surely I should share supremecy with allies?

The tooltip should say you need 30% intel, so no it doesn't really matter what tech you have you just need to get to 30%. Having deception help but your enemy might also have an encryption which would lessen the effect.

You can get naval intel
  • by fighting the enemy navy
  • by upgrading your agency (naval department)
  • by having radars in the area (and I think with scout planes)
  • by establishing a spy network
  • (And by capturing a spy from the enemy)

(List may be incomplete)

Thank you for your response, I am playing on Vanilla though so do not think many of these apply?

I would try to get into some fights (convoy escort, convoy raiding, patrol and strike force in the waters. You could force some convoys of you to go there, maybe enemy U-Boats attack and you get a fight.)
And building a radar might help.

Thanks, that's extremely helpful. It's something that had been bugging me for a while...

On my save:

- There is no navy in the area
- I cracked the enemy codes on the invasion time
- Not researched and build
- Between 70 to 90% on the coast
- Not happened

So my conditions are not to bad I think and I have 11 ships and 20 submarines (play as Turkey). But after the 1.9 patches it seems harder to naval invade France from Spain to Bretagne and from France to GB. Hope the fleet-intel-bug will be fixed!
