Fairly sure it's average (unless this was recently changed). Not that it matters a lot, since screens (shortest-range ships) are the main contributors anyway. The task force's range is the lowest range of any ship in that fleet.
Speaking of, while I never tested this specifically, I was always wondering: will DDs help convoys outside of their actual range, but within their operation zone? or do raiders happen to generate fights outside of their actual range? - can you theoretically manipulate those fights to happen outside of enemy coverage, for example?Fleets cannot perform missions where they do not have range
That's correct, it's average, my badFairly sure it's average (unless this was recently changed). Not that it matters a lot, since screens (shortest-range ships) are the main contributors anyway.
would be helpful if at least the speed of each ship is show on the taskforce panel. Its really annoying that theres no way to specify ship speed or range when telling the AI to automatically create fleets. It can screw you over when your whole fleet has to slow down to 20 because of one crappy destroyer you forgot about dragging the rest of them down.
You can specify the tag for ships ie crabs for the slow ones, but its a real micromanagement pain.
I'd like to see a fuel tank module or even a auxiliary tanker that could be constructed to follow the fleet around and give a flat range increase so that depending on the number of tankers compared to the fleet size they would give so 1000km or more of extra range.
This would allow for long distance missions as Japan and Germany similar to the ones that they carried out irl, Graf Spee and Pearl Harbour as examples. Alternatively a fuel tank module or adjustable range setting (like engines and armour on tanks) would allow for the refitting of early ships so they can keep up.
There a lot of possibilities with this and I'm curious to see what PDX do in the future.
I agree that docking rights give you some freedom in the Atlantic and western Pacific but trying to reach the American west coast as early game Japan can be difficult as there aren't many options for docking rights. While an interesting idea, i think that docking rights already have the effects you are aiming for. Still, it would only be historically accurate.

totally yes.I am also wondering about this. May I confirm that Docking Rights = Friendly Naval Base = helps with naval range?
There is one. But only cruiser submarines get it, lol.I'd like to see a fuel tank module
Docking rights have little to do with real range. It's largely a fake concept, intended to cover up lack of proper naval mechanics. Some people call it 'streamlining'. Yeah, I too can 'streamline' chess into checkers. While an interesting idea, i think that docking rights already have the effects you are aiming for. Still, it would only be historically accurate.
