  • Carriers shouldn't fight. They should always try to retreat from surface engagements

Ironically enough, I had intended for the poll to be single-choice... I just didn't relay that in a way that Kallocain got apparently. If I do this again in the future, I'll be sure to enumerate better.



That said, yes, the choices do cover different aspects of gameplay... however, if you "only" play one way (all carriers all the time), and your vote had happened to be one of the carrier choices, that's well within what I had expected of the poll. It was a "what peeves you" poll, not a "what do you think is imbalanced" poll.

You may interpret the poll as you will, of course. I'm jsut stating what it's intent was :)

Ironically enough, had it been single choice I probably wouldn't have voted, since A LOT of things peeve me about naval combat in HOI3. :)

I did. I also said "peeves the MOST", but again, what happened... happened. A bit late to do anything now, regardless :p

f) fleets should detect independently - currently if one finds the enemy they all fight.
It is a scale issue. An increase in scale can mean better naval play. Naval commanders, even. An HOI4 prototype will probably start out as a naval game or a Vietnam type game.
I'm sure HOI5 will have an increase in scale by at least an order of magnitude.

Actually, none of the options annoy me.

But how about having proper naval invasion planning? Larger amount of them is not a solution.

How about not treating naval units with those blunt strength and org bars? (Can simulation of proper damage be added instead? Like when the engine is damaged, the ship cannot sail too fast etc. instead of just counting with per cents of the ships strength...)

How about the AI being able to coordinate land and naval actions? When an Italian theatre located in Greece (with enough assigned ships) receives orders to move its forces to North Africa and it still sits in Greece doing nothing is not how I imagine this...

How about convoys being shipped to proper ports (closer to the frontline)? How about multiple supply ports for land units?

How about evacuations by sea?

GCZ has said it. There are many problems with the naval game including the ability to build ships in any port. surely major ship building facilities can be over subscribed but that goes for all facets of production. One of my major peeves is the limitation of a) only 2 types of carrier, should be at least 3, possibly 4 (CVE, CVL, CVA, CVA large) and the aircraft complement should be more varied. Units should be a choice of Fighter, Torpedo Bomber, Dive Bomber (equivalent of close support?).
The roles of the different type of ship should also be better defined.

one tiny thing that would make a huge difference would be to have a seperate popup for when your fleet is being bombed its very important to do something about that but its often annoying to be swamped by messages about other bombings which catagory do I put that under? destroyers too fragile lol ?

Perhaps.

That said, if someone is going to make a "current" poll, it should probably be someone with all expansions. While I still know some things from reading here, I'm no longer qualified to post as a "knowledgable expert" of the game.

That, and I haven't been allowed to vote in a poll for yars ;p
