Just had the most fustrating war of my EU2 career. Playing as Zanji It took me 150 years to build up my country to where I thought I would be able to take on Oman for control of Zanzibar. I had gotten ahead of them in both Naval {me 7 oman 4} and land {me 15 Oman 9}. Thought this was enough but I go to war with them and somehow they have both Strong moral for Navy and invinceable for army. I myself was +3 navy but still only had disaplened moral for Navy. So I thought wow they must have gone full naval and then full free subjects and offense. Not sure how to chack this. Anyway to make it short the Army battles had a fairly normal and fair outcome but the naval battles were just plain wrong. I must have lost 95 % of them including several 12/0/2 vs 1/0/0 battles. Must have lost about 30 naval battles and I think I only won once when Oman had a warship with them. The only other time I won is when they only sent transports. Please someone tell me that there is some other hidden factor behind this.:(

I don't use navies much... they're really unbalenced in this game. Everytime I have a larger fleet with better tech, I seem to lose. There was one time in EU1 where I had a 1,200 ship fleet though... I won with them :)

In EU1, I always had grand fleest for different areas of the world, with all being close to 250 ships, and my GRAND HOME FLEET would number something like 400. This was with cheats, but even without cheats, I had three fleets of 250 as SPain.

Its probably a good thing the Naval maintnance cost was jacked for EU2... I haven't experimented with it since 1.04 came out and reduced the naval main. Is it practical to have larger fleets now?

Yea I'havn't done much battling with navies but in my recent french game I had a few good ones with the English but I don't remember it being so unbalanced with those battles. I was thinking maybe Zanji made their ships from bulsa wood or that the Swahili people where actually afraid of water so their moral collapsed at the thought of going to battle and possibly sinking.

PS thanks coralsaw I've downloaded it and will check it out in the morning.:)

In my denmark game I can support 102 ships total. I have 30 warships, 40 galleys, 25 transports, and full maintence is 5.8 ducats.

Yes the Shiite gain a 1.00 moral bonus to both naval and land units. At higher tech levels it is not as big of a deal. Early naval techs just do not have a big enough moral bonus to over come it yet. Land moral is much higher in general so you would not see as big of a difference here.

its kinda cheap but if you wanna check out a country's stats and bla, jus quit your game and start a new scenario like grand campaign. then choose that country. after tha campaign loaded, load up your saved game and you'll be that country so you can see wha their dp setting are and whatever else :D

wonderful explanation... but why your posting nothing of substance, why don't you explain why only Shia get morale bonus under your model Petrus... I think you might find some Sunnis who say their soldiers go to heaven too :)

Oh Thank god. I'm so glad to hear that there is some logical explaination to the moral descrepancy. Guess I'll have to wait another 50 years before trying again. Still think 12 ships against 1 even with the 1 at higher moral should win most of the time. :)
Cheers

Because the Sunnis are a heretical faith, unblessed by the prophet.
