One thing I am wondering about is if surface detection is not averaged out during actual combat. It at least seems like having a single ship with high detection along with ships with poor detection is good enough in combat.

Of your fleet, or task force set on patrol?
If it's the whole fleet, then it would be better to have purely spotting fleet with no strike forces inside, as strike force would have lower detection.

The group. (EX: 4 Cl´s together, or 10DD´s + 4CL´s together).
I used fleet here meaning that.

And yes, its better to have purely Spotting fleets under 1 admiral.
And your S&D under another.
Mostly because that way you S&D fleet can be managed better.

I can use up to 6+ admirals depending on the size.

For example. I do like to have 1 scout admiral for the atlantic and one for the pacific.

This stops the AI of being dumb and sending a scout that i designated for the artic to go all the way around the world to Singapore.

Coordination -> Truth. No idea how it works. Likely its based on the size of the fleet you are using. I was never able to get that value above or below 100%......
This guide answers your question.

"
Escort efficiency: it dictates how efficient your screening ships are at escorting your convoys. The base value is that you need 1 screening ship for every 2 convoys escorted. With 100% coordination, the value goes to 1 screening ship to 3 convoys. Coordination is essentially a value which punishes of using more than 10 task forces in a fleet. That's all. So any admiral with 10 task forces will have 100% coordination. It improves with the skill of your admiral, lowering the number of escort ships needed again, but it's anedoctical. You can try with lower escort efficiency but I wouldn't take the risk.

For ship surface detection, the guide says it grants extra .3 per SD. However is this .3% additive or .3 % multiplicative.

If you have 20 SD that would be 6%. Assuming 1% base chance.

Is it say 1% base + 6% = 7%

or 1% base * 1.06

Thanks a lot for the effort you've put in this guide. In my playgroup, as the allies we lost at least a thousand convoys in our first game after Man The Guns. We used your detection guide to troubleshoot the situation and make decent escorts with detection modules, and detection from land and air when we could.

Gave you well deserved credit in my practical guide to surviving as the UK in multiplayer,
