Naval Blockade

I am trying to figure out all the effects of a naval blockade. If you are suffering from much naval attrition it would be nice to know when a blockade isn't worth the trouble.
The manual and the FAQ does not cover this subject in detail, and I hope some of you can help me!

As far as I can tell a blockade has the following effects :
1. Always intercept the blockaded fleet.
2. Combat bonus when fighting the blockaded fleet.
3. Contributes to siege in the blockaded province.
4. Has a negative impact on the income from the blockaded province.

Are there any effects that I have missed?
Can anyone provide more details about 2,3 and 4?

This might be tied in with the lowered income but I believe a blockaded province has less manpower as well.

To fight naval attrition, you can just split your fleet in several parts and each send them to your closest port turn by turn.

Just make sure the "parts" have >5 warships each, as this is the minimum needed to blockade.

No problem. I have the biggest fleet in the world, besides Spain. I already started with +30 warships, and that amount is more than doubled a few annexations and enthusiasism for the navy later.

A good way to see the economic effect is to go to a prov that is being blockaded by pirates. Once a fleet destroys the pirates, your prov. income will rise by a certain number of points or a percentage, and when the pirates move back in, the income will decrease again.
