Playing aod with 1.06 patch. Started game in 1939 as italy, it is now 1942. Total capital ships lost on earth since 1939 is only 3 which are belongs to norway and denmark. Total screens lost on earth is only 11.


Here is the naval problems i was waiting for to be solved since 1.03 patch, but it seems none of them are solved:
- Naval battles are not decisive
- Naval AI is not active as it was in Ho2 armageddon
- AI United Kingdom doesn't even show up in mediterranean sea unless i force their navy to leave their port as i invade alexanria and malta.
- Capital ships are invincible
- Even weak and slow fleets can escape from your powerful fleet without giving any loss.
- AI players don't want to protect their convoys and transport ships. It is a childplay to destroy AI convoys.
- AI can't make amphibious assaults where they don't seem to be protecting their transports with enough ships. I force them to withdraw form the amphibic landing with only couple of screens.

These are the reasons i don't play AOD anymore.... If you play GB for example, amph landings of germany just cost me a laugh, because you just need one small fleet to destroy the transporters or get them to reatreat...

I mean, it is ridicolous... I dont think Operation Sea Lion would have took place without naval (and air) support....
It is a gameplaykiller

You can fix this by making a quick edit to the Arsenal of Democracy/db/misc file

# Naval - Naval Combat STR damage (All Naval units attacks against Naval units)
0.75


Change the 0.75 to something between 0.85 and 1.0


- Even weak and slow fleets can escape from your powerful fleet without giving any loss..

The change mentioned above should help. Also, you could change this

# _CV_NAVAL_MIN_COMBAT_TIME, minimum combat time before retreat possible (prevent bouncing) | DO NOT CHANGE to less then 8 (wyk)

Change the one to 2.0 or maybe even 3.0

You could try a Mod that alters AI naval behavior. For example, the Third Reich Mod does this if you want to play as Germany.


Regarding troop transports, you could go to Arsenal of Democracy / db/ units / divisions /transports and change these lines:

maxspeed = 12 (I suggest changing this to 16 or 18)
visibility = 90 (I suggest changing this to 50)
seadefence = 0 (change this to 1)

Good tips for modding that I am sure would improve things somewhat, but the core problem remains that the naval AI is very poor compared to what should be expected from the game at this stage. This is one of my main disappointments as well in a game that is otherwise excellent in many other things.
