I sent a fleet of 6 warships (naval tech 1) from a port to an adjacent sea zone to engage a single enemy warship (also tech 1). The battle began on the 19th of the month. On the 20th of the month, it was reported to me that my fleet was annihilated.

This seems like a bug to me for a number of reasons. First, battles between navies of the same tech level are very unlikely to resolve in a single day in EU2. Second, both navies were at full morale and the same tech level. Third, since my fleet had literally just left port, it was not a matter of attrition.

Not only did I expect to win outnumbering my enemy 6 to 1, but I expected my fleet to last more than just one day.

Windage, perhaps? Coming out of a port straight into battle puts you at a great disadvantage. Or maybe he had a leader?

No enormous flotilla was added. It was just his one vessel. The opposing warship did indeed have the wind advantage, but I still feel that this battle resolution was probably not WAD. Even with a wind advantage and a leader (he might have indeed had one, I can't be certain, but how many naval leaders does the Duchy of Athens get at the beginning of the Grand Campaign?), an instant loss of six warships engaged with one seems pretty nuts.

None, actually - they get no scripted leaders anytime :) Unlikely they got a random one either.

Do you have a save game from just before then that we can run the battle over again from?
