In the WWW videos it seems like these doctrines are a bit under prioritized. They only cost half as much to research as land doctrines (150 days) and some of them give 100% bonuses and like land doctrines they are applied for free after they are researched.

So the question is, why not focus on these as much as land doctrines in WWW?

I could very well see somebody finish the whole naval doctrine tree before war as you can research 3 naval doctrines simultaneously which is probably what you are going to see nations like UK, USA and Japan do.

And air doctrines seems just so important for the air war that you should be researching these pretty much non stop.

So you do all doctrine research and lag behind on industry , weapons and everything else. Remember your research slots are limited.
Yes I could do that if the benefit of doctrines outweight what else I can get. A big + of doctrines are that they improve stuff for free, even stuff you already have like the starting ships.

you still have to keep up with production tho. A Tank with excelent doctrines and tactics wont help you much if the enemy already got a more advanced model for example. Its all about balance. I'd probably do doctrine research with 1 slot constantly and start with land doctrine first, depending on the nation of course, and if i dont have anything important to research in between maybe start with additional doctrine research, otherwise i'd stick with one slot for doctrine research. I dont see straight up rushing all 3 trees to be much use, since it probably hurts you more than it helps.

Doctrine research speed can of course also be affected by several technologies and national focuses aswell, so getting those +50% research speed for doctrines first is probably a better deal than just straight up rushing them.

Yes but equipment research are much more limited then doctrine research as you have the ahead in time penalty to deal with so you are probably only going to research equipment pretty sparsely.

Doctrines have no application cost after they are researched and no ahead of time penalty either, yes they still cost research time but a country like UK you probably should have researched most of the naval doctrine tree at 1940 as if you lose the seas you lose the game, even at cost of many other techs including land doctrines.

Thats what i meant with depending on my nation and that i would only do it if i have nothing else important to research;). As the UK, japan and maybe italy for example i'd rather focus on the naval tree, while germany obviously has to prioritize the land doctrines. The USA would probably benefit from very good air doctrines due to their industrial capacity to build carriers for example.

Mid/Late game air doctrines get alot more important for countries like germany and japan tho, while naval doctrines might be something italy and the USA should start focusing on.

Imo there is not much point in doing all three simultaniously.

You have to make big tradeoffs no matter what the thing is to know what is useful and what is less useful for your nation.

UK need a good navy and airforce but to have these it will never get a good army, decent but not good. Germany can maybe skip most of the navy stuff and so on. USA could maybe take a risk and go for nukes at cost of army or navy quality and make up with quantity.

However if USA don't care about naval doctrine and Japan go for a completed naval doctrine, it is very likely that Japan will rule the sea and probably force USA to the peace table.

How many research slots will you get? Is there a way to increase the number of research slots by like changing an education focus or building some kind of infrastructure?

You start with 3 as a minor power and 4 as a major power and you can get a maximum of 5 research focus from the national focus tree.

Getting the 5th focus as a minor power however require you to have around 50 factories.

The navy doctrine trees have 15 "techs" each and they seems to have a base cost of 200 days each, you can research 3 navy doctrine techs at the same time for most of the doctrine tree so if you do that you can have a completed naval doctrine around mid 1938, assuming some cost reductions from national focus + maybe starting with a few naval doctrine techs.

Naturally it will cost alot, but it will make your navy very strong.
