Thanks for the responses!

I figured the Pampalona=Navarre thing but i figured I should ask just in case.
I'm not sure, really, when they stopped callong themself kings of/in Pamplona and became kings of Navarra. Maybe some of our Spanish members knows?

Glamorgan, ah, that makes sense now.
Glamorgan? what are you English? Morgannwg!
:D

;)

Powys was still administered from Gwynedd in 1066? cool. One problem as a generalist or even as a historian in general is finding snap shots in history. I knew that during the civil war between Maude & Stephen, Powys tested the English frontier near Shrewsbury under an independent Prince against the advice of the Prince of Gwynedd, Owain Gwynedd if I remember correctly. I was not sure when the Prince was independent again.

Bleddyn ap Cynfyn ruled Gwynedd and Powys from 1063. I believe Gwynedd was the "senior" part in that union created by Rhodri Mawr back in the 9th century...

Dyfed? what are you English? Dafydd!
:D

Mike
Sadly my source are mainly in English. My Welsh is a bit... eh... non-existant I'm afraid ;)

What happened? Did they just decide that Navarra was a cooler name? Was Navarra used as a name of the area before this?

So, does anyone of our enlighted people here know if the 1066 Campaign will start with the Muslims in Iberia divided in 15 Taifa Kingdoms like they were in reality during that time or will there be some time warping around and find a misteriously unified Muslim world?

Pretty please :D

I'd bet on the individual Taifa kingdoms. Judging from the historical research they put into other areas of the game, I'd be suprised if they didn't at least have the proper nations in the Muslim world.... ;)

Re Aquitaine, Toulouse, Britanny:

Strictly speaking these were indepedent of the King of France and very important dynasties, so logic suggests they should be playable. I am going to take a guess and suggest a possible concern is that given the weak state of the French monarchy in 1066, the designers fear that a purely historical treatment would result in the AI King of France remaining a minor power in most games, which would incite critical comment (??) If true, one "fix" would be to give the French King additional influence over what actually were historically independent counties and duchies at game start.

I think the game engine doesn't allow non-feudal entities to be playable, just like Genoa and Venice, Muslim countries are not supported.
Hmm...

Is Paradox considering an expansion pack to address this issue? If not, could it be kind enough to let the files be easily scriptable so to allow player created mods?

I think it literally translates to "king", but it was used as the title for the Emperor starting in the reign of Heraclius, I believe.

The word basileus goes all the way back to Ancient Greek, when it meant the king of a city-state. It has roots going all the way back to Mycenaean Linear B tablets, in which it appears to signify some sort of important minister subordinate to the wanax, the fellow in charge of the palace; through the early Iron Age it was retained as a title for chieftains. By the age of Classical Greece it was used both for the kings of the city-states that still had them (such as Sparta, which had 2) and for certain priesthoods which required a "monarch" (such as the basileus archon in Athens, who had only religious authority), as well as for foreign kings/emperors, such as those of Persia, who ruled much more than a single city-state. In this time period it was very important to distinguish a ruler who had a claim to the throne (basileus) from one who had simply taken power in some manner (tyrannos). Basileus was retained as a title through the Hellenistic and into the Roman period. The original title used for the senior emperor of the Eastern Empire was the Latin Augustus, with a subordinate Caesar, but by the real Middle Ages, the practice of dividing the empire in this way had pretty well died out. I can't say as much on when Basileus is reintroduced to replace Augustus in the East, but it had certainly happened at some point.
