I dont like it, simple is that, if your army is victorious then u should get the entire province supply with wat ever is left over going to the enemy, a army with its tale between its leg aint gunna be too crash hot at scavaging food now is it?

Afterall in france june 1940 who was the one drinking red wine and smoking cigars while woofing down truffles? Yet why should my bavarians doe just as fast as the limeys?

Sorry for the bytching but its a pet hate of mine:)

Good point actually ... never thought about it too hard, but a fleeing army shouldn't be able to force the victors to suffer attrition.... probably the game engine just isn't set up to handle this though.

Speaking from a programmers perspective, that shouldn't be too hard to code. Just tweak the attrition algorithm so that the fleeing army's strength isn't included in the attrition calculation.

IMHO, the fleeing army ought to suffer more attrition than the army that remains intact in the province.

There's quite a lot of military development between the EU era and 1940.

It makes sense, actually, when you think about it for a bit. The fleeing army is still foraging for it's food - food that otherwise would go into the bellies of the garrison. Remember that in this timeframe, provisions were pretty much what you grew yourself (many forts had extensive farms) or took from the surrounding countryside/towns. If the fleeing army has already stripped the surrounding countryside/towns bare - 'taint nothing left for the garrison.

Also recall the time scale - "fleeing" may take several months; they ain't exactly running through the neighborhood.

Besides, even with the oversize EU armies, we're talking about a low ratio of force to space here. A beaten army should easily be able to forage for food as it retreats-so it should still count against a province's supply limit.
