Done a quick search on the CORE forum, but cant see this issue raised.

It’s 1937, and I’m playing as the Soviet Union. I’ve invaded Sinkiang, then moved onto Nationalist China and her allies as they declared war on me.

Problem is every time I get near to conquering one of the alliance nations (SangXi, Xibei, Yunnan, etc) Nationalist china instantly annexes them. How can they, they are allies???

Even more frustrating is that Japan has now also attacked the Nationalist China alliance. It was a race to see who could cpature as much territory as possible.

Like i do in Vanilla HoI2 I’ve purposefully saved one key Nationalist China province so that Japan couldn’t annex until I’ve gobbled up all the territory I wanted first. But then, frustratingly, Japan instantly annexes Nationalist China, Yunnan and Guangxi (despite having no occupied territory in either Yunnan OR Guangxi). This is not a fluke, I've reloaded the same save game three times and it happens each time.

What the hell? I cant see this as a intended feature of CORE, as its so flawed. If the AI can mass annex nations without capturing key provinces (or any territory at all!!!) then the Human player also needs to have the same opportunity to annex nations he is at war with, or his allies if things go sour for them, as currently ‘Annex Nation’ is greyed out.

Is this an event thats triggering? Is this meant to happen? Very confused, and frustrated, as Japan has land grabbed huge amounts of territory for little or no effort.

Playing 0.3.2 CORE, Armageddon patched to 1.1.

Thanks for your time.

All part of the Unified Front event chain, really. Which primarily is/was focused on a Japanese attack rather than a USSR going for rich pickings as well. China will see a major overhaul for 0.40 though.

You must realise that those "other" Chinese states are not "real" countries - they are more like factions of the Nationalist Chinese state. Thus, when a big war erupts (eg Japan of the USSR attacks China), they basically stop their petty internal squabbles, and become part of the larger "China". The game does this via events that annex the faction/warlord entities to Nationalist China. A player cannot do this (if you were playing against a human Nationalist China, he wouldn't get this option).

It is not, therefore, "broken". You will not get the option to annex your allies, or nations you haven't yet conquered fully. This is something that is done simply to reflect the fractured nature of China at the time. Legally, it was still one nation, but in game, it is shown as the various factions.

I understand your reasoning about the states (thanks for the answers people). I understand how/why Nationalist China can annex these states now, and that does seem right.

For my game it's particularly frustrating, as I wanted to create one China front by cutting NC into two (so Japan couldnt get South-West China until I was ready to conquer it myself). That plan has gone to pot now, and now when I will face Japan I will have four fronts. :(

Doesnt help that 1 out of every two times the annex event triggers the game crashes back to the desktop either. lol.

Oh well, I'll have to think of another plan. Thanks again for the replies.
