The Spanish confidence was badly shaken after the war against the U.S.A. in which the colonies of Cuba, Puerto Rico, the Philippines, and Guam were lost. Seperatist movements like those of the Basques or the Catalans gained support, the church interfered in politics, and a radical workers movement destabalized the balance between conservatives and liberals. After taking the governmentin 1902 Alfons XIII showed expansionist tendencies as demonstrated by the intervention in Morocco.. The Algeciras Act of 1906 did acknowledge Spanish interests in Morocco, institutionalized by a protectorate over the north and south of the African country in 1912, but it became a source of permanent unrest. During World War 1 Spain remained neutral. After 1918 the social tensions erupted in a number of revolts by the rural populace and right wing as well as anarchistic factions. Alfons XIII supported the military coup against the government by General Miguel Primo de Rivera who abolished the constitution of 1876 and installed a dictatorial rule between 1923 and 1930. He ended the uprising in Morocco with a victory over Abd el-Krim in 1926, but could not master the economic crisis and had to resign after repeated revolts by the military and students. In 1931 Alfons XIII also abdicated and allowed the Liberal Conservative Niceto Alcalá Zamora y Torres the proclamation of the Second Republic. The republic, however, could not overcome the deep rift between the factions of the Spanish society, reaching from fascist Falangists to monarchists, conservative liberals, left liberals, socialists, communists and Anarcho-Syndicalists. And so, in 1936 the shadow of civil war loom over the Iberian country.

I played as Luxembourg until the SCW event fired.
Here we go.
Here's an overview of all Spanish lands.
Here is the Iberian Peninsula where I anticipate all the fighting to take place.
I got a very favorable split, so Guadalajara, Murcia, Malaga and Bilbao are our objectives. Once we control these VP provinces, we can annex the Republicans.
People start flocking to Franco's call and we get 5 militia and 1 infantry arriving in Seville. They immediately come under attack from Malaga and dig in.
The Italians answer the call of our burgeoning facist nation.
Not to be upstaged by Mussolini, Hitler pledges his support as well.
We blitz through Guadalajara and Albacete to Murcia where we meet and overwhelm their force, which they previously split multiple times in an attempt to take Seville. Infantry from Barcelona and a Mountain div from Tarragona move up to assault Bilbao from two directions. The lone Republican div was quickly overwhelmed and sent packing for Oviedo. Meanwhile, the 6 divisions in Seville sucked up the attack from Malaga and immediately counter attack and drive the wasted Republican infantry back into Jaen. By August 5th, the Republicans sign the instrument of surrender.
A look at our army after annexation is a bit disappointing. After the Germans and Italians return home and we imprison the Soviets that were aiding the Republicans and we send our militia back home to their families, we end up with 23 infantry, 1 mountain div, 1 light armor div and 1 Cavalry div.
On August 8th at midnight, Franco officially takes over the government...
and selects his ministers.
The battle may be over, but the war has just begun. The economy is in shambles and now it's time to shift our focus and set forth upon the path to our destiny, whatever that may be.
