You just completely annihilated the 5000 men army of some natives with ancient technology and took all their lands. Suddenly 20000 well trained, high tech rebels spawn. Does that sound realistic?

I think nationalist/separatist rebels (at least when they spawn first) should be far weaker for the following reasons:
They usually spawn right after a war, that means almost no men capable of fighting should still be alive in those provinces (since they should have all been wiped out fighting in the enemies army). Their lands were completely devastated in the war making rearming very difficult. They rise up very quickly meaning they have only very few time to prepare. Most citizens in the provinces should still be scared of the horror of war, making it difficult to find persons to join the rebellion. They were often technologically behind (since you often prepare for a war, trying to get ahead in military tech).

Tbh, I think things like nationalists shouldn't even exist in the beggining of the game. Most of rebellions back in medieval times focused on removing oppressive sovereign (who usually happened to be foreign) and replacing it with a more benevolent one. Nationality played large role, but cause of revolt was not pure patriotism. That said, I don't think they should be removed completely from that period in game.

Still, some of rebellions are simply inadequate to what they actually could be. For example, in late XV c. in Livonian Order game Karelians rebelled with 20k army in Ingria and Neva. Even if we assume their social organization was strong enough back then to identify as a nation and to unite for common cause, were those lands economically capable (while not devastated by war) of rising regular army of such strenght?

I kind of agree, but also I don't.
I don't in the sense that they're like, OP or anything. They gather support from locals to fight, not just men.
But I agree in that it should take manpower to cause a rebellion, like you said where do those guys even come from?

I wanna say "disagree but" on this. I think that seperatists ought to have numbers and technology based on the capabilities of the nation they are based on, in senarios such as this.
Mainly that native separatists ought not to be able to get that many weapons in that short space of time.

Side note: Currently westernizing means you keep your old units. It'd be nice if in stead there were Westernized Versions of the units for each tech group, and westernizing got you those units. These might not be as good as western ones, but they'd be better than the default units. It's be nice if seperatists for nations of lower tech groups got these units, at least for conquerers in the Western Group, and units of their own tech level for everyone else. Or somethng.

So basicly Nerf Seperatists in this one case - Agree
Nerf Seperatists generally - Disagree
