Someone mention before Nationalist China is a minor/major nation in the game. So I wonder how many research slot they have in the beginning. 3 slot as a minor or 4 slot as a major?

They start the game as a minor. All majors ATM have their own unique National Focus trees. China doesn't.

It has never been stated by the devs that all minors get three slots and all majors get four.

The 7 majors in the game (Germany, UK, France, Italy, Soviet Union, Japan and USA) are the only nations that start with up to 4 research slots, with 1 (or 2 depending on what they start with) additional one(s) being unlockable via the national focus tree. The minors usualy start with 3 slots and can unlock 1 or 2 depending on the country. Poland and hungary gets 2 extra slots and Finland 1 for example.

The minors (all other nations) start with 3 slots and can unlock 2 additional ones via their generic focus trees.
As I said, the devs have never stated that. There is no reason why Minors can't start with two or three research slots, depending on how backward their technology was. They can only unlock one extra research slot. Only majors can unlock two extra slots.

A minor can become a major by having more then 50 factories, then the second additional slot can be obtained. That means majors can have 4, 5 or 6 slots.

This is not correct, France ( a major) starts with 3 research slots with 2 more available through national foci

I think China should be a little more focused on. It's evident that as the only Allied substantial power in Mainland Asia, (Russia kinda shitted around in the East honestly. The US was invading sooo) they can really tip the power in the sense that a player can resist the japanese a lot better than AI. I've played a lot of WW2 simulation games and this is really apparent. At one point in most games I automatically play as China because Japan will decimate the world if I don't hold them off (Resources from conquering china). Meh. I'll go back into my box.

China probably will get some focus in a DLC, but in vanilla they do have the generic focus tree, giving them a lot of options, unique civil war mechanics & events (other nations will use the generic system), and of course they will have immense potential in terms of resources and manpower. Basically, as China, if you are able to unite the rest of the Chinese factions and tap into some of those natural advantages, you should be able to crush Japan.

There is no doubt that China will benefit hugely from many of HoI IV's improvement overs previous games in the series, and they should be very fun to play. We'll find out soon.

As long as the minor focus tree give 2 research slot and nationalist china use the minor focus tree they will start out with 3 research slots. France start with 3 but can get to 5 with national focuses.
