Hello! I loaded my Save from CK2. There I created Kingdom of Normandy with help of Kingdoms unbound mod with Williams half-brother, count of Mortain De Conteville. The territory consist of Dutchy of Normandy (obviously), Brittany and Flanders. Throughout my game i deliberately had to restrict myself from expanding so I wouldn't be a big PHAT BLOB when i converted game to EU4. Now that i have my Norman kingdom I noticed that they have those crappy unspecified cultural ideas. So I would like some help in creating for norman national ideas. So if normans wouldn't be extinct and would have their own nation, what kind of national ideas do you think would fit them? From what I understand normans were great warriors, adventurers, pretty good sailors considering their viking blood and their amphibious assaults on England and Sicily. What more is there?

Well being vikings, I'm going to have to go with epic beards. ;)

No they don't :). My problem is though that I converted my save to EU4 and i get the same national ideas with the normans as I would with some random small nation that doesn't have specific ideas. For instance Portugal have all those colonisation/exploration ideas, Russia has the manpower/big army ideas. I would like you to help me brainstorm so I can mod some national ideas for Normandy that would be realistic and not game breaking.

Well seeing how the Normans would have the viking traditions, I would probably go along the lines of boosts to naval tech, and naval tradition as they've always been very seafaring, bonuses to land shock values to represent raider hit and run tactics, and probably some trade bonuses to showcase good old naval knowhow.

These are 15th century Normans. Sweden doesn't have viking ideas in EU4 and neither should Normans. :p

Our Normans here are more or less French at this point. Give them bonuses similar to France or Burgundy.

I think you should do a mix between the English tradition and the French tradition since they are from both world.

These are 15th century Normans. Sweden doesn't have viking ideas in EU4 and neither should Normans. :p

Yes but don't forget that this is a fantasy scenario where I took an alternative path, where I won independence from France in late 11th century. In that game William never got England and got his butt kicked, I backstabbed him as count of Mortain, De Conteville. So that's about 350 years of history separate from France. In England the Anglo-Saxons actually survived the norman and the norwegian invasion :D, but they still turned english. Some parts were controlled by Denmark a while but got retaked after a while.

I like the aristocracy idea, they did have many knights.

Well, if you want to go for vikings, then definetly det some of the jomsviking ideas. Anyways mine would be:

Tradition:
+5% morale of armies
+10% naval forcelimit

1st idea:
+1 Leader Shock
2nd idea:
+10% global tradepower
3rd idea:
+5% morale of navies
4th idea:
Casus Belli on all french/english cores (old ideas resurfacing)
5th idea
+10% production
6th idea
-10% Stab cost
7th idea
+1 Legitimacy/year (considering you had the same dynasty for a couple of hundred years, also the knightly pursuits)
Bonus:
+1 yearly tradition on both ends

you can mix this up buff/nerf anything pretty much here but I think it's reasonable considering they should be a fairly militaristic power, but with enhanced naval/trade abilities. Also you should have a pretty damn strong base to start trading from, considering Antwerpen and Boureaux can both be easily controlled by you. Also there could also be some really cool events events, like the french trying to wiggle their way to the northren shores so they can trade with the prosperous england etc. I just consider this a great point to start a mod in general.

Keep in mind that traditions are meant to represent the pre-1444 history of a nation while ideas and ambitions represent the history from 1444 on. That gives you quite a bit of leeway.
