Defensiveness coupled with extra attrition (+ defensive ideas perhaps?) sounds like invading them will be really tough. I'm all for!

they got even perma +1 attrition from arid climate so if you take defensive and high prestige and full piety you have 100% defensiveness and +3 attrition; welcome in the world of pain

If I'm not mistaken Afghanistan starts as a releasable state in 1444. So no Ironman Afghanistan for us :(
Is it formable in any way?

IIRC they start in 1.1.1450(?) as junior partner with Timmies with lost Persia.

Fantastic. I'm assuming this means -1 Dip point per month consumed for every point of Diplomatic Repuation while diplo-annexing?

Probably not, since he said it effects speed. The current cost reduction ideas and policies don't effect speed, a 20 base tax country with 25% cost reduction still takes 20 months to integrate, it just costs 220 power rather than 300. To change speed you'd have to do something like make it cost twice as much per month but half as many months to finish integrating.

+1 diplo rep is the new standard in AoW, equivalent to +3 before but with more uses as it now affects diploannex speed once more.

Thanks for answering our questions and for doing posts on the weekends for these new NIs. You've got me curious about the diploannex speed and diplo rep now......... can you elaborate more?

To those who are saying "-10% WE reduction cost is meh" consider the fact that playing as Afghanistan will become a pick-Aristocracy-always.
Bonuses that synergize from their NI's and Aristocratic ideas:

-Cavalry power; (15+10)%;
- Hostile Core Creation Cost; (100+100)%;
- Cost of reducing WE; [(-10)+(-20)]%; (if you also complete Diplomacy ideas, you will be able to pay 27 DIP for reducing 2 WE!)
- National Manpower modifier; (20+25)%;

Except for hostile core creation cost, it's very similar to Ottos NI's. I like them!

If I'm not mistaken Afghanistan starts as a releasable state in 1444. So no Ironman Afghanistan for us :(

Otherwise awesome ideas except for the diplomatic reputation. Unless the diplomatic reputation bonuses have changed.


AFAIK you can pick Timmies in 1444, release Afghanistan and then play as released vassal, in Ironman. Going to check it out.

An you can it's not like you're forbidden to play in Ironman in later start date(but seriously what's the point whether is IM or not play, regular and enable historical lucky nation if you reeealy want that much)

Is +1 attrition really all that much? I guess I remember my days of Magna Mundi (days which never really ended) where attrition of 13+% was pretty common.

Well you have +1 from siege, +1 from arid/+2? from tropical, +1 full defensive, +1 NI it my evaporate manpower very quickly, not only from sieging but moving from province to province too and WE will go through the roof

On topic: The ideas are nice, I've never seen them in my game though or atleast...not long enough to enjoy them. In a certain way I doubt it will change much. Certainly not in an ironman game :(

This is why people keep saying don't judge before you get more information. :p

Anyways, the ideas are looking nice. I hope Air gets some unique ideas (maybe a nice +1 diplo rep? ;) ). Anyways, I also like the unexpected news that diplo rep has an effect on diploannex speed again. Don't know how it will work but I'm excited to try it out as France... You might have just helped me decided between them and Air to test out AoW.
