Maybe a tad stupid to post a new suggestion a week before expansion, but...
I think national focus should reset its timer when the ruler changes - a son or an usurper might have different ideas on towards what to steer a country.
Also a reminder when its available to select would be nice (on top in the UI with the rest of them).
In the long run, maybe increased bonuses/maluses the longer a focus is set. And events similar to idea groups.
It could even be that the longer you have been focusing on a single area, the longer it takes for the country to readjust when you select a new focus.
