So I've recently discovered HoI and I've been absorbing all the information I can about it. I don't know how a game like this has escaped me when it seems exactly up my alley. Anyway, I was wondering what happens if a country changes its government type to another one in regards to the Focus Tree.

For example, if I'm playing as the good old U S of A and I decide to that I'd rather be a fascist America and successfully shift it over to a fascist government, does the Focus Tree change also? Or would I still have things like the Monroe Doctrine that would no longer make sense for fascist America? If it does change, is there a custom fascist America focus tree or do we just get booted over to the generic tree? Anyone know the answer?

Accessibility of the tree will change; we've seen that they need a specific non-standard government for some of their War Plans, for example, but the tree stays the same. So, some political doctrines get sealed off or opened up. Not so sure about the Monroe Doctrine, as that kinda makes sense for all three to have, but it could be sealed in a democracy-only route.

Focus trees wont change, no. Every country has several paths in the focus tree which includes option for other ideologies basicly. As the USA you can decide in which direction you want to prepare via national focus tree. You could prepare for a war against japan, a war against germany or even a war against the UK and commonwealth.

Similar stuff goes for germany for example. They have the option to enforce their demands peacefully or by force, like danzig for example. They could decide to give them the ultimatum or they could trade danzig for northern slovakia for example and befriend poland.
