I'm curious what's the best use of National Focuses? I normally move it around when I need a CoT somewhere, but outside of that, I'm never quite sure what to do.

A Colony naturaly grows usualy at a rate of 50 population a year (without any other factors) and becomes a city when it hits 1000, when it has the NF or neighbours it, it gets a further 50 population per year. So by placing a NF next to a colony you can practicaly double its natural growth allowing for them to become cities quicker.

Good for when you want to speed up a group of colonies rather/aswell as spamming colonists on already created colonies.

That I get and have done. But he said "including" so I'm wondering what advantage there is to colonies that are disincluded?

I'm also wondering what non-colonial strategies there are? I often move it to use that cultural unity thing, but most people seem to think it's useless, so I'm curious what they are using their NFs for?

By including he means just colonies next to the province with the National focus and the province itself if its a colony, all other colonies do not recieve this bonus.

And there are other benifits to non-colonies, heres the wiki page http://www.paradoxian.org/eu3wiki/National_Focus

I'm curious what they are using their NFs for?

Enacting certain decisions which require it, such as formalised weights, scales and measurements on the capital after gov. tech 10(?)
Placing it on an area which I'm building up with magistrates (you get a small refund on Magistrates if you build in and around your national focus. your refund is given on the day your building is completed, I think it's 0.25 magistrates you get back)
If nothing else, I stick it on the province which borders the most other provinces in my Empire. Notable places of interest for having many borders with decent land are Novgorod in Russia, Oxfordshire in England and Bern in Switzerland. provinces which border National Focus get a boost to almost everything. The extra 0.5 tax is certainly helpful in the early game.

You do? I'm not doubting you, but where did you learn this? I've never seen that anywhere.

It's fairly well known but obviously only occurs in Divine Wind where magistrates are used for buildings. Just build a building in your national focus area and, on the day of completion, check your magistrates count (as long as it's not already at 5.00). the magistrage numbers will go up on the very day that the building is comlete.

If you are building up a large empire, magistrates are the choking point, so placing national focus for magistrates gain can be the most important consideration.

Yeah, this is tech 10 and 0.25 mag. back.

In 'Holy War' games, I often use the NF for helping conversion and lowering nationalism revotl risks in recently annexed provinces. +5% conv. and -2 min RR is very helpfull : you have less armies in the NF area and more armies available for the next upcoming war .

The building refund was only added in 5.1 so if you play 5.0 for some reason you wouldn't see it.
