It would be interesting to have the national anthems of the all countries at the time... although, what would you do for Germany?. I suppose... take the Anthem that was after the war, or present day... or you can do all the anthems of the countries in the present day. Also, if you have tags of many other countries, it will be handy if you put their anthems in too.

If there is a way to make the Anthems play specifically for those countries, the full versions of the anthems and with words if they are in them.

Imagine listening to La Marseillaise while taking back France, or the...eh... Soviet anthem while taking back their lost terretories and 'liberating' Eastern Europe.

Then again, you could just listen to them while playing HoI2 for no specific reason... except for having pride in your own country. :D

I belive that the all major belligerents (ie. UK, USA, France, USSR, Germany, Italy, Japan and Nationalist China) used the same anthem back then as they use today.

Granted, Sovet Union did use Internationale until '44 when they changed to the Hymn of the Soviet Union.

But, I do agree that it would be nice if the game would have all the major anthems.

Germany still use their national anthem that they had during Hitlers time in Germany.

Oh... I thought it was changed

Most countries actually... have not changed their anthems.

The big question: When would they be played?

At the end? When you become the highest in VP? When you annex a nation or get a happy event?

(BTW, not quite on topic, but rather amusing nonetheless, try and make an event in Victoria which inherits all countries to your country at the start of the game. All those events popping up... It is one: "Cling, cling. cling..." And that`s not even mentioning the clickings... :D )

I think that to make this idea work, it would require a change in the <<engine>>, ie the present one plays the same music for all, but the above proposal would require the engine to distinguish between countries and play the correct music, if this can be done, than I am all for it.

Germany's current national anthem is the 3rd verse of Haydn's opus, the words are "Einigkeit und Recht und Freiheit" (Unity, justice and liberty) (no wise-cracks, please)
Whereas the lyrics that was banned are from the first verse ... I'm not gonna write them, you all know'em

Also, in the pre-1945 anthem the lyrics do not invoke some sort of national superiority (as many people believe) but find their roots in the German Revolutionary movement of the early 19th century ... not that nazi's didn't warp the meaning to suit their aims ...

http://www.brandenburghistorica.com/page5.html
disclaimer: the above link does give the history of the anthem but is hosted on a site with a suspiciously rightish undertone ... I'd like to say that it does not coincide with my political convictions but just was the first link on my google-search

Just use the instrumental versions ... that should be enough ... would give the game an almost Olympic feeling ... anything is better than having a soprano give us the kitsch version of the US-anthem ... now I happen to like the US-anthem (can't beat the CCCP one or the Marseillaise tho)... but not in the pre-sports-event version

The current anthem of Communist China also was a fomous Chinese patriotic song in WWII

Include the Nationalist Chinese anthem and you have another reason why HOI2 will be banned in the PRC ... ;)

You are absolutly right. I just wanted to add that Hadyn was an Austrian and that his song first was the anthem for famous Austrian Emperor Franz Joseph.
I`m not shure but I think the Germans "borrowed" Austrias anthem after the first World War.

The Hadyn's tune was not used in Austria as an anthem during WW1 anymore tough.

I also belive that the original wording (ie. deutschland über alles) dates back to 19th century.

(Edit) Wikipedia seems to agree with me. Words are from 1841.

If this was ever introduced (which I highly doubt, as the size of the game could greatly enlarge) then they should use God Save the queen.

Surely you mean "God Save The King"

I think National Anthems are a good idea. After a quick search, I was able to find the USSR National Anthem (1944 version) sung by the Red Army choir.

What could be better than rolling into Germany, screaming "Death to the Fascists!" while this song is blasting from your speakers?

NOTE: The author takes no responsibility in the case that you do decide to do such a thing. :D
